Hearing with FBI agent goes off the rails after GOP congressman asks how many times he lied to his wife about cheating on her
A congressional hearing devolved into chaos Thursday afternoon when Rep. Louie Gohmert of Texas attacked FBI agent Peter Strzok over his extramarital affair with FBI lawyer Lisa Page.
While accusing Strzok of lying under oath, Gohmert said, "I can't help but wonder when I see you looking there with a little smirk, how many times did you look so innocently into your wife's eye and lied to her about Lisa Page?"
The House chamber quickly broke out into pandemonium, with fellow lawmakers shouting "Mr. chairman, this is outrageous!", "Shame on you!", and "This is intolerable harassment of a witness!" over each other.
Rep. Sheila Jackson-Lee, also of Texas, even yelled "You need your medication!" to rebuke Gohmert. Rep. Jarrod Nadler of New York then raised a point of order, accusing Gohmert of violating House rules by "impugning the character" of a testifying witness.

Possibly a low blow but nothing like what Trump has endured.
The hearing was a shouting match. One of these days we might find out some truths about what happened in that campaign. Maybe some people broke the law but no charges either way yet.
Completely missing from the questioning was the obvious. Gowdy looks to have caught Darrell Issa disease. He did not prepare his questioning and I am quite disappointed. Failing to prepare is saying, in essence, that Strzok would not prepare and that does not even rise to the level of inane. It is stupid.
It is perfectly predictable that Strzok would seek to wrap himself in the honor of the FBI. It is likewise predictable that he would cite his multi-decade record as FBI agent. So when you (as questioner) attack those things with mere innuendo, you are blowing air against the brick wall. It is predictable that the tactic will fail.
Once again: The single task is to get the deponent to contradict themselves, ideally within one (the same) sentence. Period. Nothing else really accomplishes anything.
When Strzok dismisses all the Strzok-Page texts as “out of context” and wraps himself in the tradition and honor of the great men and women of the FBI as a matter of deflection, the question is “So was all of the FBI having sex with Ms Page or was that just you?”
Answer that one, Mr. Strzok.
Gohmert is a great one.
Put some ice on it, Jackson-Lee and Nadler.

I have to say, I was grateful for President Donald J. Trump before watching Strzok, but now, after seeing first hand what he has had to deal with and what he has saved US from? Whoa...

As long as the Republicans completely and utterly fail to get the brass ring, the self-contradiction, they (the Dems) are right. When the questioner throws up their hands out of frustration, that is losing. Like it or not. The questioner has to achieve the self-contradiction. That is the gold, the silver, and the bronze all in one and there is no second prize. The line of questioning must not be improvised against a skilled deflector such as Strzok. Gowdy seriously underestimated him, or failed to prepare, or both. Pathetic. Gohmert was thoroughly and skillfully derailed. “Oh come on” does not work.
You have to start with the (or a) contradiction, then work backwards towards the supporting questions that cause the deponent to testify both sides of the contradiction, then wander towards and then meet at the junction and pose the impossible. I can’t emphasize this enough. There is only one functional result. Any variation is a failure. You cannot rely upon some imagined buildup of shame. This is litigation 101 and the Repubs are incompetently blowing the chance they have waited over a year for.

Brilliant. It was a perfect burn, easily understood by the public. If people study the videos people have made when they #WalkAway from the democrat party, it isn't about obscure policy. Its about ordinary people finally seeing the dishonesty for what it is.
