An Orwellian nightmare is unfolding in Turkey, where life for Turks and foreigners has gotten much worse in the post-election period during which the paranoia of the countrys strongman has started to run even deeper, painting a bleak prospect for the nation of 81 million that straddles Asia and Europe.
The fear factor in the mindset of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has clearly reflected itself in the Cabinet reshuffle, bringing more loyalists, hard-core Islamists to the government, allowing cronies to rise to increased prominence. The face of the Cabinet can only be interpreted as a further indication that Erdoğan is closing ranks with his inner circle to run an even tighter ship in the governance of Turkey. He will rely more on the combative nature of the new government, which appears to be designed more like a war cabinet to fight off the Turkish presidents real, or rather perceived and often imaginary, enemies.
Erdoğan remains obsessed with the West in general and United States in particular, believes they are aiming for his ouster from power. He doesnt trust Russia or China, either, but feels compelled to cozy up to them to gain leverage in negotiations with the West. Even slightest criticism is enough to rattle Erdoğans psyche, which is quite troubling for people around him in shaping reasonable policies to normalize Turkeys ties with allies. It will be nearly impossible to pursue a coherent policy with Turkey as long as this man remains in power and continues to rule with his unstable psyche, troubling emotional state. Compounding this problem further is his vision of himself as a kind of caliph tasked by God to protect all Muslims in the world. His pet project of expanding Islamist proxies even in the US and Europe, part of his self-conceived missionary work.

Abdullah Bozkurt was one of the last well know Turkish writers (commentators) to escape Turkey after the Faux coup in 2016. He is president of Stockholm Center for Freedom. https://stockholmcf.org/
On Twitter this morning:

On his arrival for 2nd day of meetings at NATO headquarters, Turkey's president Erdogan does not look happy. What gives NATO Summit(?)

Another great photo, of Trump and Erdogan at the NATO summit this morning from a terrible article in the NY Post (link only Getty Image)
This guy better hire bodyguards. He is the next target of Erdogan.
It can be argued that the events in Turkey precisely mirror events in Germany and Venezuela.
We need not worry about Venezuela because there is no there there.
following the same political course as Adolf Hitler to the assault on the government and subsequent expansion across all the fertile crescent and Persia is certainly cause for alarm. Erdogen is in fact Adolf Hitler
turkey had the chance to join the civilized world. Instead, it chose to go back into barbarism and savagery, by becoming more *slamic.
Yep
A childhood friend of Erdogan has described how he carried a copy of Mein Kampf around and was always quoting from it.
No surprise here.
Oh, he knows.
I don’t know a source that better understands Erdogan and Turkey. It was his home, he never intended to leave it.
When he did leave, he thought it would be a short while he would be gone. 2 years already. He did get his family out.
ANOTHER of Odumbass’s legacies
Suspect the mullahs of Iran and Erdogan will soon cozy up to each other. Turkey and Iran have interests, not mutually exclusive in Syria and need each other for economic and political reasons. Erdogan can also use his “relationship” with Iran as a lever to extract money from the nervous Saudis. And lest anyone forget, Turkey is a member of NATO, that stalwart alliance that helps secure freedom and liberty.
Muslimes in charge, chaos follows, I watch the show who is smarter than a 5th grader, that should be a requirement to get elected, oh but then get sued for racist thoughts, umm, Islam is not a race. It is a religion and you the powers that be have no restraint attacking Christians, so excuse me, I won’t have my kids taught a filthy religion like Islam.
Turkey’s still in NATO.
I know I’m off topic but every time I read something about Turkey it ticks me off because they wouldn’t let the 4th ID cross into Iraq during the War.
With Turkey, one gets the feeling that there is a tremendous insistence upon becoming a problem or five no matter what happens.
Yes. Turkey is a collection of problems.
Well, they have always been on the wrong team.
For now.
agree
Iran’s Mullahs have their own internal problems and huge external financial problems. They also are Shia and Turkey is Sunni Muslim. They hate each other.
The degree that Muslims in the region take islam serious varies. Depends upon the country they are in.
The Turkish lyra exchange with the Dollar is about $.20 per 1 Lyra. There was a time they were close to par. $1 = 1 Lyra (not recently)
Anyone notice his wife at the NATO summit? She looked like a miserable sourpuss.
My Syrian friends told me long ago, they don’t trust a leader who does not smile. From what I’ve seen of the ME, that is probably good advice.
It does not always hold true though. We had a conversation about one of our generals. They made that observation about him, he served under Obozo, not much to smile about. Now, he is one of their best defenders.
