GOP strategist and CNN contributor Rick Wilson said Wednesday that Trump supporters "want anybody whos darker than a latte deported" while arguing that some in the administration actually enjoy seeing migrant children being separated from their families.
The remarks come as the White House faces considerable criticism from lawmakers on the both sides of the aisle over the "zero tolerance" policy that separated children from their parents after crossing the U.S. border illegally, despite Trump signing an executive order on June 20 to end the practice. A federal judge said the administration needs to expedite the reunification process after it missed Tuesday's deadline for all separated children under the age of 5 to be back with their parents.
The pictures of the cruelty of this administration are a very deliberate part of this, Wilson, one the network's most outspoken Republican critics of Trump, told anchor Poppy Harlow during a panel discussion on CNN Newsroom.
Theyre a feature not a bug of the Trump administrations policy. Nobody inside the Trump administration is unhappy with these things because theyre talking to their base, theyre only talking to their core supporters, and their core supporters want anyone whos darker than a latte deported.
They dont believe in the asylum process, they want to separate the families as a deterrence, a sort of theater of cruelty, Wilson added. [Trump aide] Stephen Miller and the guys in the white nationalist faction of the party are very happy about this. They love the whole optics of this cruel exercise.
Democratic strategist Steve Trippi concurred with Wilson.
They wanted their base to see this, Wilson argued. They had no intention to return these children to their families, ever, and now they have to, and thats why theyre having so much trouble doing it.
Wilson later defended his comments in a series of tweets.
U.S. District Judge Dana Sabraw had scolded the administration this week after government lawyers indicated that U.S. officials would only be able to reunite 75 of 102 children under the age of 5 who are currently under HHS custody.
These are firm deadlines; they are not aspirational goals, Sabraw said. I would like the process to continue as expeditiously as it has been with paramount focus on the childrens welfare.
I know, we’re just like Nazi Germany. Remember all those photos of Jews trying to break into Nazi Germany? Oh, wait...
Rick WilsonIdiot is speaking for himself, NOT the GOP base or Trump base, be rest assured of that.......
Oh my! Read his wiki!!! Language warning. He fits right in with CNN.
If you want to see some hilarity, go look at Rick Wilson’s Twitter feed. When he says something stupid, the conservatives on Twitter rip into him. I laugh a lot.
He is the 'core' of the GOPe. They (political candidates) hire him to do the sewer work and pretend they (political candidates) come calling from upon 'high'. He is the ugly face of the GOPe.
Sounds about right. //sarc
These people kill me.
Who?
The other day I was talking with a friend about this. She went on to tell me that her great grandparents were immigrants.
I asked how she knew.
She went on to tell me that she went onto one of those sites and actually found their name listed in a book from Ellis Island.
I asked if that was a Government immigration port. (As if I did not know.). She told me all of her relatives came through that place.
So, I asked...they immigrated through a government port of entry. They were not just dropped off on the beach. Or they didnt just walk in from Canada?
I just looked at her and shook my head. Some people just dont get it.
People like Wilson remind me of why we hate the GOP establishment. He obviously is shilling for employers that use illegals, and the racism charge is the best he can do.
No kidding. Just like Scarborough pretending all these years being a conservative on CNBC.
We could counter that because of people like him, the immigration system is so clogged with illegals, we can’t have a sensible system to offer entry for say Haitians - on a legal basis. Why does he prefer Mexicans to Haitians?
This Wilson guy is toxic. He has the worst case of NeverTrump out there; worse than “George Won’t” (George Will) and Bill Kristol combined.
No, we want anyone who entered the country without a visa to be deported.
He can be safely ignored as insignificant.
DemocRATs want to replace Americans lighter than a latte with foreigners darker than a latte because whites won’t vote for DemocRATS.
Uniparty “strategists” agree, Trump is Hitler and his base are Nazis.
The ultimate detestable establishment RINO creature.
Nope. The “Trump base” (including me) wants all illegals deported. No exceptions. I want illegal Germans and illegal Poles deported. I want illegal Mexicans and illegal Hondurans deported. I want illegal Chinese and illegal Koreans deported. I want illegal Australians and illegal Canadians deported. It’s about the rule of law.
Rick Wilson is a Republican political strategist and media consultant based in Florida who has produced televised political commercials for governors, U.S. Senate candidates, super PACs, and corporations. [1] He has written in The Daily Beast, Politico, The New York Daily News, The Federalist, The Independent Journal Review, and Ricochet.[2][3]
Wilson became well known during the 2016 United States presidential election for his denunciations of Donald Trump and supporters of Trump.[4] Examples include asking Ann Coulter via Twitter if Trump “pays more for anal”, and on MSNBC referring to Trump’s alt-right supporters as “childless single men who masturbate to anime”.[5]
There has been vigorous push-back from conservative circles because of Wilson’s consistent support of the NeverTrumpers. As Ace of Spades HQ described him: “’The’ Rick Wilson, the super ethical and super important Republican that no one except for some twitter shut-ins ever really heard of until he went full #ImWithHer.”[6]
