Lawmakers on Tuesday overwhelmingly voted in favor of a motion supporting NATO, as President Trump continues to criticize the alliance ahead of his summit in Europe.
... NATO members agreed in 2014 to increase their defense spending to 2 percent of their gross domestic product by 2024.

Nothing here of value just a rehash of what has been said and arguing about the 2% of what
This article is about the 98 out of 100 votes of support for NATO in the Senate, just yesterday.

You can always count on the whores in the Senate to undermine Trump in every way they can discover.

Many countries in NATO, which we are expected to defend, are not only short of their current commitment of 2% (which is low), but are also delinquent for many years in payments that have not been made. Will they reimburse the U.S.?
More freeloading EUers. Fight your own war next time.
You go and look at the bulk of German society which has gas and oil heat...they buy their oil/gas from Russia. The money goes to fund the Russian oligarchs. A portion of the money is taxed, and helps to support the Russian military machine. The Germans are paying for the tanks, the fighters, the subs, the nuke missiles, and the helicopters. The Germans paid for the little war that Russia conducted in Georgia, and the Ukraine. The use of the Russia military in Syria? All paid for by German consumer.
Why should the US remain in the middle of this....let the Germans ‘friend-up’ with the Russians.
What exactly is NATO defending against? The USSR fell decades ago. WW2 has been over for almost 75 years.
Recently Europe has extended sanctions on Russia which bite into Russian spending on their military.
I think Russia could afford to invade Georgia and Ukraine regardless. No?
The Senate sure spends a lot of time on doing things other than streamlining the government. Trump is right to keep pressure up, given that the tiny economies of Latvia and Lithuania contribute a higher percentage share to NATO than the mega-economies of Germany or Spain - economies that depend on the safety assurance provided by the existence of NATO.
There was a time when European leaders were falling over each other at summits to be pictured next to Putin and there was much questioning on the need for NATO. Then Putin should his true KGB anti West colors and now not so much.
NATO is simply a mechanism for the U.S. to maintain a permanent military presence in Europe. It’s not there to defend against anything.
But Europeans are reluctant to spend more on defence, aren’t they?
Europeans are squeaking, as if Trump squeezed them too hard.

They could extend and grow every single sanction possible on Russia, then come to pay for the Russian oil/natural gas right on schedule. The money flows right into the Russian military budget. No one on the Russian military budget side has to worry....they’ve got the Germans signed up and happy to pay for oil and gas. It’s been that way since mid-80s. The little German guys just haven’t ever wised up to their ‘friend’.
Think of EU’s stance on Iran nuke deal.
Europeans are so keen on funding islamic revolutionary guards corps.
Russia is always a threat...always.
Seems like the last two world wars were fought against Germany, not Russia.
the two percent by 2024 is BS. They have no intention of ever doing this.
Both Trudeau and Merkel have said so.
NATO is braindead. Pull the plug !
“Russia is always a threat...always.”

Yes, that is why Trump demands Europeans to spend more on defence (afford more NATO spending).
