NBC News was for years the network juggernaut that raked in the ratings and the cash. It was also widely respected for its journalism standards. Now, the once-respected news organization is wobbling after months of self-inflicted blunders. The missteps include personnel disasters and questionable news judgments. These preventable gaffes suggest a news hierarchy at NBC that has lost its compass, operating as a misguided corporate bureaucracy and not as a journalistic service to the nation.
NBC pioneered broadcast news in the late 1920s with radio news updates from the legendary Floyd Gibbons. The network was the first to venture into television news, with nightly updates from John Cameron Swayze beginning in 1949. The Huntley-Brinkley Report later followed and dominated ratings. After news surges by CBC and ABC, NBC reemerged in the mid-90s to again command the broadcast news landscape.
That leadership is now fading as ABCs World News Tonight with David Muir has overtaken NBCs Lester Holt for five consecutive quarters. NBCs Today show now also trails ABC, and has lost sixteen percent of its younger demographic viewers in just the last year.
Lester Holt at first seemed to thrive in the NBC anchor chair he inherited three years ago from Brian Williams, who got launched for telling tall tales. Holt seemed overmatched, however, in his moderating of a 2016 campaign debate between Trump and Clinton. His puffy report from North Korea earlier this year in advance of the Olympics was poorly developed and came off as North Korean propaganda. NBC acknowledged that North Korean censors organized the itinerary and controlled the visuals. Recently, when the Justice Departments inspector general testified before Congress about the FBIs conduct during the Hillary Clinton email probe, Holts newscast failed to mention the story.

They consider the Today Show an actual news program????
I wasn't born yet.
Less to do with Lester Holt than with coverage of Stormy Daniels.
Good grief, these morning shows like CBS This Morning with NorDUH and Gayle and the metrosexual guy are not eve close to being "news" programs. They are more like entertainment shows using Dem talking points and supplementing that with their pro liberal drivel commentary after each story.
“””””Once-respected NBC News “”””””””””
Now it is NBC...NoBodyCares
So sad.....bahawwwaaaaaa
Thats great, but what Id really like to see is a halt to the use of taxpayer funds for the pseudo-neutral PBS/NPR. They are unabashedly propaganda arms for the democrat party and the left, thinly disguising themselves as a public service.
“”””They consider the Today Show an actual news program????””””””
In the same way they call Colbert, Kimmel, etc..”comedy” shows.
Nothing but pure democrat propaganda.
Once?
When?
1939?......................
I thought it was impolite to start a headline with a lie.
My grandma told me “never trust anything they say on tv” and that was the day after the moon landing in 1969... :-)

NBC Spews has not been respected since the early days of Hunley-Brinkley and newscasts were 15 minutes long. When the 'News' departments were moved under entertainment, and they became 24 x 7, they took it upon themselves to "interpret" the news for the weak minded and then it was a short jump to manufacturing the news.
Look on the bright side: except for management, anchors, editing, and reporting, it’s actually doing pretty well.
When GE owned NBC, Jack Welch ruined NBC News. Welch hired the leftist ideologue Zucker. Zucker in turn hired leftist producers and correspondents who admitted that they would turn NBC news into a biased progressive outlet patterned after the Guardian newspaper in Britain. The did what they said they would do and turned NBC into a propaganda platform trusted by no one. Zucker moved on to CNN and completed the total transformation of that already biased leftist outlet into pure garbage.
That MSNBC is part of their organization is enough to keep me from watching NBC. That and the fact that there’s nothing and nobody on NBC News I want to watch anyway.
