The ball is in Mitch McConnells court again. He guided Neil Gorsuch to a seat on the Supreme Court with ease in 2017. Hes a perfect 21 for 21 in confirming the federal appeals-court nominees of President Trump, with more to come this year. Given the thin margin he has to work with, this is impressive.
Mr. McConnell adopted as his top priority as Senate majority leader an ambitious effort to make the federal courts more conservativefrom top to bottom. Theres only one way to do thisfill every judicial vacancy with a conservative.
For Mr. McConnell, this is a war. Justice Gorsuch was D-Day. Judge Brett Kavanaugh is the slog across France. Mr. McConnell is a general in a hurry to keep winning, since Republicans could lose the Senate majority in November.
With this nomination, Mr. McConnells task has gotten more difficult than last year. Republicans had a 52-48 majority last year when they approved Justice Gorsuch unanimously. Now the majority is effectively 50-49, with a Democratic pickup in Alabama and John McCains absence.
When Justice Gorsuch sailed through, Democrats and the left were reeling from Donald Trumps election. Their opposition was inept. The vaunted resistance to anything associated with Mr. Trump was pathetic. Now Democrats are committed to blocking Judge Kavanaugh, and theyre serious. But they still have Chuck Schumer as their leader, and they still cant do it without Republican help.
Mr. McConnell is no Chuck Schumer. He doesnt try to make clever compromises that quickly fall apart, as Mr. Schumer did...

Sotomayor has extreme diabetes, I think.
I read somewhere that she has Type 1 diabetes. Cant point to the reference though.
I still can’t believe Billy Boy put a 60 yr old(Ginsburg) on the Court.
THAT will be like the kamikazes toward the end of the Pacific Campaign. We will need about 55 strong Senators for that one.
They need to give the appearance of an all-out effort to stop Judge Kavanaugh's conformation to appease their base. It's all about fund raising.
It just shows you how arrogant they were. He thought the Dems would remain in control forever.
Trump derangement syndrome—very high risk for people over 65 ;-)
someone posted here cleverly and aptly - i forget who, I’d sure like to credit - but it was this great thought:
McConnell sucks 90% of the time. But he picked a good 10% not to suck....lol
Feeling like a kid at Christmas eve....
I don't think so. Even Democrats realize how ridiculous such a tactic would look. And how much it would fire up Republicans going into an election.
The Notorious RBG was a payoff to H->! .
Rabid Ruth Marcus(Washington Post/MSNBC) said it would be suicide for red state dems to not vote for Kavanaugh.
You give the Dems too much credit. These are the same Dems who want to abolish ICE.
I hesitate to give him credit, because he can quickly turn around and shiv America in the back. However, his judiciary jujitsu has been very tight. I am happy that there are sane law abiding judges being confirmed.
True.
I must admit I LOL’d when I read a particular comment at an article. The comments keep rolling in so the comment keeps getting pushed further down. The libtards are trolling as much as they can with their insanity.
I’m sure they were happy with the end of Scalia. What convenient timing, all for Obama to appoint a gun-grabber. Thank God he wasn’t allowed to succeed. Thank God Hillary lost.

They will be screaming at the sky again.
Credit where credit is due, he did well with Gorsuch and blocking Garland.
Thank you for referencing that article Brilliant. Please note that the following critique is directed at the article and not at you.
The title of the referenced article is actually disturbing since Sen. McConnell is arguably a card-carrying member of the Constitution-ignoring swamp that Pres. Trump is successfully draining.
