Pennsylvania Redistricting May Flip 3 House Seats to Democrats
Breitbart ^ | 9 July 2018

Posted on 07/09/2018 10:42:43 AM PDT by BlackFemaleArmyColonel

Democrats are currently favored in three seats held by Pennsylvania Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives, thanks in large part to a controversial and unprecedented decision by the Democrat-dominated Pennsylvania State Supreme Court earlier this year. In that decision, the Court rejected the state legislature’s 2011 redistricting of the state’s congressional districts completed after the 2010 census and draw the boundaries of those congressional district lines themselves. All told, seven Republican-held seats in Pennsylvania are now on the Cook Political Report’s list of 99 competitive races: two are rated “likely Democratic,” one is rated “lean Democratic,” one is rated “Toss-Up,” one is rated “lean Republican, and two are rated “likely Republican.”

To get a sense of how significantly the Democrat-dominated Pennsylvania Supreme Court’s gerrymandering has hurt Republican chances in the Keystone State this fall, consider that on December 30, 2017, when the Real Clear Politics Average of Polls gave the Democrats a 12.9 point generic congressional ballot advantage, five points higher than the Democrats’ current 7.2 point generic congressional ballot advantage, the Cook Political Report listed 0nly six Republican-held seats in Pennsylvania on the list of 99 competitive House races.

Democrats were not favored in any of these six Republican-held seats. Five were rated “lean Republican,” and one was rated “likely Republican.”

The two Republican-held seats in Pennsylvania currently rated as “likely Democratic” by the Cook Political Report are the new 5th Congressional District, which was created from three other districts, the largest of which was the old 7th Congressional District, which is currently represented by Rep. Patrick Meehan (R-PA-07), and the 6th Congressional District, currently represented by Rep. Ryan Costello (R-PA-06), who is not running for re-election and is classified as “open.”

The legislature finally grew some stones and enacted supreme court districts, which they should have done to begin with. It is and was stupid to elect the PA Supreme Court at large. The state legislature has to approve this in another session, which is going to happen.

This will get the supremes out of the district drawing business as it should. I think the new 5th district is lost as it is a fairly easy Deomocrat flip. The new 6th can be defended but will take a wave election. The new 7th was only won by Clinton by 1%. This is definitely defendable.

Those on the western side of the Commonwealth even more so. After the Conor Lamb upset in our district, the 18th, we are now in the 14th and the little Lamb Conor ran off to find an easier district. I am not sure he will be able to run as somebody willing to work with President Trump now that he is actually a congressman with a track record.

So, yeah, flipping three seats are possible, but only one of the three is highly likely at this point. That's a far cry from the six they said were in play in March.

"Wait a minute.... 17th is for direct election of Senators...."

Yes about 17th. And while the corrupt House can make unconstitutional appropriations bills that effectively steal state revenues, consider the following.

Until ill-conceived 17th was ratified, the Founding States gave power to vote for senators uniquely to state legislatures. This was so that state lawmakers can elect federal senators who protect state revenues by killing unconstitutional House appropriations bills.

"Congress is not empowered to tax for those purposes which are within the exclusive province of the States."—Justice John Marshall, Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824.

“Perhaps we should be asking why they stopped at 435 100 years ago.”

100% agreed. Sizing the house properly solves everything from gerrymandering to the two party stranglehold. I don’t think you’d need term limits either ... turnover in the House would be pretty high since being one of 6K to 8K wouldn’t wield much power.

I think the 435 limit is *the* thread we need to pull on to restore sanity to DC. It’s always best to dilute power in the lower ranks. With every year that passes, Representatives get more powerful ... that has to end.

Still another reason for ALL Republicans to vote this November!

If we lose after we ALL get out and vote, that is one thing; if we lose because we sit on our ass and don’t vote to help POTUS, that is entirely another, and shame on us!

And if it doesn’t, they’ll go back to court to demand even more gerrymandering.

Since the US Supreme Court ruled for Texas in a redistricting case in June, why hasn’t the PA legislature returned to the original districts telling their supreme court to pound sand???

The problem appears to be precinct level fraud with some kind of ballot stuffing. There should always be a few votes for Romney made in error, people who never heard of Obama, or whatever. But with zero there is likely some systematic fraud by the precinct personnel.

Exactly, I believe that was his point!

Anyway, I come from an all blue state, and this kind of thing is common here, IMO.

James O’Keefe (Project Veritas) would have made hay with undercover video exposes up here, but...it is a two party consent state, so people can’t be recorded unless they agree...so he had to go to Wisconsin instead!

And this is why I’m moving.

I know people are getting on me for not fighting, but I’m not driving 3 hours to get to the capital, philly or 6 hours to **itsburgh to do these things.

The Northeast is a cancer and fighting it is tough. I’m done with dealing with the NE politik. I’ve spent 20 years arguing against these shills and now I just want to retire among my own kind.

The redistricting thing was slick - a totally stealth approach to making more democrat votes (We call it cheating). Dems can’t get votes unless they are cheating.

I live in the PA-6th District and right on the edge of the 7th and I can tell you it isn’t so. I expect stories and polls like this all the way to November to try and energize the Democrat vote and discourage the Republican.

The incumbent for the old 7th district was Patrick Meehan (R). His seat was based in the Philadelphia suburbs..out through Media, Nether Providence, Swarthmore and the like - always strong Republican in the past and would never have gone 'rat, but folded into a new district probably loaded with 'rats, may well fall.....

Simple solution: Impeach and remove the black-robe fascists. Charge the judges with crimes against the people of Pennsylvania, convict and lock them away.
