Thousands of anti-gun protesters shut down lanes of a major Chicago highway to pressure lawmakers to enact gun control measures to address the increase in violent deaths in the city.
The left-wing protesters, led by the Rev. Jesse Jackson and the Catholic priest Father Michael Pfleger, shut down all northbound lanes of Chicago’s Dan Ryan Expressway on Interstate 94 Saturday morning after a standoff between the police and the demonstrators.
The marchers carried signs that read, “We need jobs,” and chanted, “Stop the killing,” as they walked down the 1.5-mile stretch of highway to let lawmakers know their desire for better schools, more jobs, and stronger gun control laws to combat the violence in their communities.
Some children even stopped to use chalk to write the words, “Enough is enough,” along the highway route.
“When people keep ignoring you, you take it up a notch,” Pfleger said. “We are going to continue to take it up a notch until we get responses.”
The Illinois State Police reached an agreement with the demonstrators early Saturday morning that the protesters could take up two northbound lanes and allow traffic to pass through the other two lanes.
Gov. Bruce Rauner’s office said in a statement that protesters who ignored the boundaries set by highway workers would face arrest and possible prosecution.
But Pfleger and other protesters ignored the warnings, saying they would occupy the entire northbound section of the highway.
After hearing of the chaotic situation that led to the shutdown of the highway, Rauner tweeted his disappointment in Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel for not controlling the protesters.

Illinois is a “shall issue” State. This means if you have a clean record, take the required classes, and pass the marksmanship test, you get your permit.

Shutting down a highway should be a crime if it isn't already; and anyone involved should face real prison time.
The belief that this sort of action is protected by the First Amendment is absurd. Protestors do not have a right to force people to listen to them.

Until the culture in the “Urban community “ changes, nothing will change. How about the “Rev” Jackson and “ Fr.” Fleuger go into the hood and tell the folks there to cooperate with Law Enforcement when they are trying to investigate these homicides
What irony! The people entirely responsible for the things they deplore are out marching because of them. These guys are 100% behind not strictly enforcing the law on their favored classes and as usual are blaming everyone else for the situations they created. The epitome of hubris.
Imagine if a bunch of "conservatives" did something like this. What would our friends in the media say? Even three Trump supporters holding signs on a corner are supposedly more ominous than a leftist "peaceful protest."

Well, they want Indiana andWisconsin gun laws changed too. Indiana actually respects people’s firearm rights and that drives these types crazy. And they can’t touch Indiana, Wisconsin or any other state. So they reach back into the tired, worn out liberal playbook and do “marches” and “protests” and “sit-ins” to let us all know how upset hey are. Meanwhile, people from their own neighborhoods are selling guns bought as straw purchases.
I say, let’s distract them by telling them that we don’t want to take their abortions away, we only want “common sense abortion laws” to restrict them.
Their heads will blow up at that one!
It wasn’t about guns or crime - it was about how much more Federal $$ can be pumped into worthless projects that do nothing for the community except put money into the wallets of J Jackson Jr. and his white counterpart Father Faker. These two were behind Midnight Basketball that cost the taxpayer big $ bucks with no results.
Father Faker refuses to answer questions on where all of the tax funds went that were paid to the Midnight Basketball program. As usual, follow the money.
That crime should earn each of those protesters at least a year in jail or prison but this being Chicago; they will probably be given a parade.
Allow them to block just two lanes of an interstate?
That is absurd.
The cops should have dragged ALL of them off, and beat hell out anyone that resisted.
What we really need are laws that make it legal to run over protestors who block roads, AND make them or their estate pay for damage to the car.
