Well - I imagine that puts a damper on the whole “give the kids a mask and let them swim out” crowd. I can’t imagine them making an error like that. Really sad to hear.

If the Thais need help, they should ask Trump to send the US Army Corp of Engineers. Once they get involved, they would solve the problem.

Father accept this courageous warrior into your arms and comfort his family who have sacrificed for these young people trapped.

Not trying to lay it on thick in this instance, because I don’t know all the particulars, but it always bothers me when people go out for recreation, and someone else dies trying to rescue them.

That’s the chance rescuers take. They know the risks.

Sad news. May this hero rest in peace, and may the Lord bless and comfort his family.

"Our behavior is different. How often have you seen a headline like this?--TWO DIE ATTEMPTING RESCUE OF DROWNING CHILD. If a man gets lost in the mountains, hundreds will search and often two or three searchers are killed. But the next time somebody gets lost just as many volunteers turn out.

Poor arithmetic, but very human. It runs through all our folklore, all human religions, all our literature--a racial conviction that when one human needs rescue, others should not count the price."

---Robert A. Heinlein, Starship Troopers

Had to happen sooner or later. Just a very high risk operation. I knew a guy who tried cave diving in Florida. Just nucking futs in my book.

That is so sad. They’ve had so many people in and out of there safely too.

RIP for this hero.

Elon Musk is trying to come up with some ideas right now, including some form of inflatable tubing. Lots of interesting comments about it on twitter. I don’t know how to copy a tweet to post it here.

Oh man. I really hate caves. I’m claustrophobic already, so this story freaks me out. I keep following it because I’m worried for the kids. Now this poor hero diver dies. Uhggg..I’m so sad for all involved.

I’m saying my prayers.
