The U.S. Navy stands ready to ensure free navigation and the flow of commerce, the U.S. militarys Central Command said on Thursday, as Irans Revolutionary Guards warned they would block oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz if necessary.
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and some senior military commanders have threatened in recent days to disrupt oil shipments from the Gulf countries if Washington tries to cut Tehrans exports.

“I dont recall the Saudis holding hostage our Embassy, and personnel of that Embassy for over a year. I dont recall the Saudis hijacking our naval personnel, humiliating them for propaganda purposes, nor do I recall the Saudis aggressively supporting armed insurrections all over the ME with the intent of dominating the region. Ive never heard the Saudis threaten death to America.
The Saudis arent pure as driven snow by any means. Yes a percentage of the hijackers of 9/11 were of Saudi origin, but I havent read of solid conclusion those persons were supported by the Saudi government. Yes I do think they may have been supported by factions within as the Saudi government was at the time quite extensive, and somewhat decentralized, but no proof has ever been forthcoming.”
BINGO.
I couldn’t disagree with you more. The fact is, once those Mullahs obtain their weapons, they will use them. You advocate we wait until they can take out our navy and our allies in a dozen nuclear strikes. Adults in charge now are not going to wait for that.
The 9/11 attack didn’t have any Saudis in leadership roles, they were all just the muscle. Every country in the region including Saudi Arabia suffered al Qaeda attacks except for IRAN. The Saudis themselves went after and shut down a charity that had fed Saudi pension money to AQ while the US balked at going after questionable branches of the same charity.
The leadership of the Hamburg cell was two Syrians- one an Imam and the other a business man with a Syrian intel background. The lead Hamburg cell hijacker, Atta, was Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood with a contacts in Syria.
The Zarqawi cell in Baghdad in 2002 was composed of Egyptians... it later merged with Iraqi intel and evolved into ISIS. Zarqawi was also smuggling boss who controlled a smuggling route from the Afghan-Pakistan border through Iran to Iraq and Syria- he could not have done it without Iran’s approval.
Al Qaeda’s second-in-command was its current leader- Zawahiri, an Egyptian with familial ties at least one of Iran’s mullahs. Bin Laden’s mother, whom he called on 9/11, was Syrian. His family took shelter in Iran.
Two of the hijackers attended the Malaysian terror summit and were met with an Iraqi - this summit was where the USS The Sullivans and USS Cole attacks were planned, and while the USS The Sullivans attack did not succeed, the USS Cole was taken out by a bomb designed with the assistance of Hezbollah. Others were Palestinian. alQaeda holed up in Iran, not Saudi Arabia, after we went into Afghanistan.
AQ’s backers in the UK were al Mihijiroun at the Finsbury mosque - they were an opposition group seeking the overthrow of the House of Saud.
North Korea’s nuclear program was aided by Iranian scientists; North Korean researchers and techs in turn worked in Syria until the Israelis destroyed the Syrian site.
No Saudis involved.
Kim’s stupid threats were aimed at getting aide from weak, easily scared westerners. He stopped that crap when it no longer got him the expected food aide or his army, but instead a bucket of trash talk from an unimpressed and unintimidated Trump.
Translation: "Bit@# Slap me please."
When I was the program manager of OASIS, a mine sweeping project, I read an estimate that Iran had somewhere in the neighborhood of 30,000 mines in warehouses near the straits of Hormuz. Given current mine technology vs sweeping and active elimination techniques this could permanently close the straits. The best approach would be to hit those mines before they leave the warehouses. Even ten mines might effectively close the straits as insurance carriers would not underwrite the ships and the companies owning them wouldn’t allow them to sail.
On the other hand, closing off the straits and the mouth of the Red Sea might spur Saudi Arabia and Kuwait to make a deal with Israel to allow a pipeline across their country. Israel has, I’ve read, already offered to do this. The Arab countries, constrained by fifty years of their own propaganda, have thus far refused. But if these countries have to stop the payments to their citizens, which prevent a revolt, then they may relent and come up with some reason they can run their pipeline.
I have maintained that the first use of an Muslim owned nuclear weapon won’t be against Israel, it will be against another Muslim country. They hate and fear each other much more than they hate Israel. Reason being; They know Israel won’t attack unless they threaten them. But fellow Muslims may attack at any moment and for a made-up reason.
Asking is all that's gone on so far. The US has asked other countries to not buy from Ira.
That might not be possible for some due to their own contracts and national laws.
As to the Iranian military, the US Navy sank the Iranian Navy twice already. And while the MSM didn't report either occurrence in the 80’s and 90’s, a third time is well within the fleet assets currently in the gulf to handle again.
I personally believe that containment is the right approach, but it will take decades, just like the former USSR. Eventually the mullahs will fall.
The mullahcracy is threatening other nations, including all the customers for oil, and their attacks would constitute an act of war -- except of course to the mullah worshippers. The Iranians are shouting "death to the dictator", and his turbaned head will be coming off if he tries some ****.
Absolutely incorrect. We told Western European banks we would sanction the banking.if they trade with Iran the way we dont want them too. Not good!!
