...FBI agents later interviewed Marrero's ex-girlfriend, who confirmed that she was 17 at the time the pictures were taken. A conviction will force Marrero to register as a sex offender and could land him in prison for up to 30 years. According to the U.S. Department of Justice's guide to federal child pornography law, "a first time offender convicted of producing child pornography...face fines and a statutory minimum of 15 years to 30 years maximum in prison." Under Ohio law, which also sets the cutoff for child pornography at 18, Marrero would have faced between six months and eight years. ...

I can’t decide if this guy committed a crime of not. This is one of those cases that calls for pictures of the girlfriend before I can decide. Lots and lots of pictures.
“So in Ohio a girl 16 can engage in consensual sex but a letting boy friend take a picture of you dressed is good for 30 years in prison?”
Apparently he took a picture of her when she was not dressed. Still, that would seem to be a matter of informed consent at that point so thirty years seems massively disproportionate.
A simple, “Don’t do this again.” was warranted.
Sounds to me like the real story here is that he was a witness for the defense of someone else that the FBI was prosecuting and this is their opportunity to retaliate against him. Kind of petty on their part especially when they’re still not doing a damned thing about Hillary.
Federal jurisdiction is implicated if the child pornography offense occurred in interstate or foreign commerce. This includes, for example, using the U.S. Mails or common carriers to transport child pornography across state or international borders. Additionally, federal jurisdiction almost always applies when the Internet is used to commit a child pornography violation.

Thank you.
“A simple, Dont do this again. was warranted.”
And what would you say if your daughters naked photo was given to a convicted pedophile and possibly distributed all over the world?

Did you really think we want those laws observed?” said Dr. Ferris. “We want them to be broken. You’d better get it straight that it’s not a bunch of boy scouts you’re up against... We’re after power and we mean it... There’s no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren’t enough criminals one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What’s there in that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced or objectively interpreted and you create a nation of law-breakers and then you cash in on guilt. Now that’s the system, Mr. Reardon, that’s the game, and once you understand it, you’ll be much easier to deal with.
SEE MY #47.
Everyone knows to keep their hands off underage children.
Corrupting the innocent is an evil thing.
It is the law as written that is out of control.
It probably is because of the age difference.
Faces Prison on Child Porn Charges for Sexy Photos of 17-Year-Old Girlfriend When He was 20
...
Other articles say the photos are sexually explicit. I never trust Reason.com to tell the whole truth.
Yep! In Pride & Prejudice, Mrs. Bennett congratulates herself on having married off a daughter at 16.
Uh-oh....
You win the jerk of the day award.
Article: “The man merely took consensual, sexually suggestive pictures of his 17-year-old girlfriend when he was 20.”
No. He gave them to his roommate who was convicted of having sex with someone less than 13 years old and as a result may have been distributed around the world by this child porn trafficker.
I just harumphed for the fun of it, and startled both of my cats.
