Scott Pruitt has resigned as head of the Environmental Protection Agency after a string of controversies involving his leadership, President Trump announced Thursday on Twitter.
"Within the Agency Scott has done an outstanding job, and I will always be thankful to him for this," tweeted Trump, who added that EPA Deputy Administrator Andrew Wheeler would take over as acting administrator effective Monday.

In his resignation letter to Trump, Pruitt said: "It is extremely difficult for me to cease serving you in this role first because I count it a blessing to be serving you in any capacity, but also, because of the transformative work that is occurring.
"However, the unrelenting attacks on me personally [and] my family, are unprecedented and have taken a sizable toll on all of us," Pruitt added.
Pruitt resigned less than a week after The New York Times reported that the EPA's chief ethics official, Kevin Minoli, had been pushing for a series of independent investigation into several aspects of Pruitt's tenure. Those include Pruitt's rental of a Washington D.C. condominium from a lobbyist's spouse and his alleged use of staff to handle personal matters.

the way I understand it he was placed in the EPA to tame it and remove bureaucratic regulation that has been used by the left to hamstring smaller businesses in the area of competition.

Well, I have read that Pruitt drew controversy in the late summer and fall of 2017 over his use of taxpayer funds.
Unlike his predecessors, Pruitt has, as EPA head, regularly flown first or business class on commercial airlines, as well as chartered private jets and military planes at exorbitant costs.
The cost of Pruitt’s seats on those flights are often several times higher than the seats for his accompanying staffers.
In September 2017, it was revealed that Pruitt had used at least $58,000 worth of noncommercial charter flights and military flights during his tenure, and when traveling on commercial airlines had opted for business or first class when those seats were available.
Pruitt’s aides had researched leasing a private jet on a monthly basis for Pruitt’s travel. The estimated cost of this would have been approximately $100,000 per month.
The aides evaluated such expenditures prior to the outbreak of a similar scandal regarding exorbitant travel costs by Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price, which later led to Price’s resignation.
After I’m finished at the EPA, the only thing they will have to do is scoop cat sh!t out of sand boxes.
40% of all EPA regs that were crippling businesses and farmers have been repealed, hundreds of EcoNazi extremists have left rather than work for Pruitt. The relaxing of regs is a big part of the current economic boom. Compared to that I don’t care about limos, plane rides and hotel rooms. You don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater.
Not good. Pruitt was one of the genuine conservatives and anti-swampies. The left is going to count this as another scalp and go after the next real conservative. This is one of the ways the Swamp is fighting back.
