A Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee says he is worried that the Russians never left, raising the specter that Moscow is looking to interfere in the upcoming midterm elections through cyber or other means.
I am concerned that the Russians never left, Rep. Mike Quigley (D-Ill.) told CBS News when asked about his concerns about threats to the 2018 midterm elections.
Quigley also alleged that Russia-linked hackers breached somewhere between 20 and 40 state board of elections, including the Illinois voter database, in 2016 and alleged that states are not prepared for future interference efforts by Russia.
First, they attacked our election infrastructure. They hacked into somewhere between 20 and 40 state board of elections, including, in August of 2016, my own state of Illinois. They hacked and dumped emails into political parties and individuals. They weaponized social media, Quigley told Michael Morell, host of CBS News Intelligence Matters podcast and former acting director of the CIA.
This is a great concern, he said.
The Department of Homeland Security has said that Russian hackers targeted election systems in 21 states as part of a broader plot to interfere in the 2016 presidential election and, in a small number of cases, actually breached state systems. One such successful attack was directed at Illinois state voter registration database, though officials maintain that no data was altered or deleted.
U.S. officials maintain that the systems targeted were not involved in actual vote counting, and that no evidence exists suggesting votes were changed. Voting machines, were are typically not connected to the internet and are stored in secure facilities, are much more difficult to breach, experts say.

Well the Russians already hacked our press, why not the election system?
If the Russians set out to sow seeds of doubt in our democracy why did the Democrats double down on it?
Of course it has nothing do with the American people rejecting your partys communist agenda, right Congressman Quigley?
This is very encouraging.
They’re already lining up their excuses for losing.
Somebody's setting up for an excuse after November is what I think.
19 seconds. Dang it.

I think I would be looking at Cook County Democrats before Russians when it comes to stealing Illinois elections Congressman Quigley. Their blame game is about as lame as it gets.
What they need now are a series of demonstrations across the country to show how sincere they are about governing a country.
Russia didn't cost Hillary the election.
The Obama administrations' failure to secure the integrity of our election cost Hillary the election (according to their own narrative.)
You mean, "We're going to take back your crumbs and give you MS-13 neighbors!" isn't a winning message?
Who doesn't want to be a part of this team?
We will embrace the red scare.
The Russians have meddled in our elections for the past century or so.
The difference here is that it wasn’t primarily as a boost for Democrats, and it doesn’t appear to have been as large as it was at times in the past. The Russian efforts seem to have clearly been dwarfed by the Mexican efforts.
Like we never meddled in anyones election...unless they get to the voting machines who cares..
Hell we have more to fear from the democrats when it comes to voting machines..
Give me one F****** example of a Russian changing one F***** vote.
So it’s ok for British government-funded BBC to spread pro-Dem, anti-Trump propaganda.
The Dems made fun of concerns about Russians under the bed in the Cold War...
Idiots on the Left already trying to set up excuses if their prophecied “blue wave” doesn’t happen...
The evidence of Russian meddling in our election points to them disrupting it in general with fake news and other efforts to divide the nation. Indeed, both candidates were the “recipients” of both plus and negative in their campaign to disrupt.
