PHOENIX, Arizona -- A 92-year-old woman is charged with murder after deputies say she fatally shot her own son because she thought he wanted to move her to an assisted living facility.
The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office says Anna Mae Blessing had lived with her 72-year-old son Thomas and his girlfriend at the girlfriend's condo for the last six months.
Court records show she believed her son and his girlfriend were talking about putting her in the facility because she had become "difficult to deal with."
According to detectives, Blessing hid two handguns in the pockets of her robe and confronted her son in his room Monday morning.

You bet...Most of those assisted living places are nothing short of flat out robbery. A huge scam.
She thought her son wanted to put her in an assisted living facility...but maybe she was just imagining it.
I’d just assume drop dead living on my own as opposed to rotting away in assisted living.
From the conversations she overheard She thought they were going to put her into a nursing home where she would be drugged into an easy to handle vegetative state until her estate had been nearly drained. Then she would be allowed to starve and dehydrate to death.
Fear of that would drive just about anybody to do what she did.
“Happy Gilmore” is a comedy but the part about where he has to put his grandmother in a nursing home (and how it’s shown) is quite disturbing.
Awful story - Im so fortunate my 57 y/o brother lives with my 91 year old Mom. She broke her hip In April and needs more help with everything and hes like a rock always helping her and watching over diligently. My mom has a heart of gold and apparently my brother inherited it. When she was in the rehab center for a few weeks she hated it and my brother was there visiting with her every single day. What a blessing from God.
“Actually the gray bar assisted living facility is probably better than most voluntary assisted living facilities.”
It may smell better. Not that she can smell anything anymore.
All of you are definitely blessed.
It was a huge battle to get my 95 YO father into assisted living. The only way we got him in was when his 85 YO girlfriend wanted to go in and sold the condo where they were living. She actually had to throw him out several times he was so adamant about it. He could not be reasoned with or convinced it was anything other than death. He signed contracts, paid deposits, then renegged several times. Fortunately I was able to get the deposit money back. He finally went in after the condo was sold. Now he likes it.
The fact she murdered her son is a pretty good indication she was irrational.
And neither will the girlfriend.
There might be more to the story. Was he after her house? I have relatives in their nineties who live by themselves and are of sound body and mind, one of them moving his lawn and recently took a road trip. If anybody tried to put him in a nursing home, he might not react kindly though surely not with murder.
You’re making an awfully big deal out of a casual joke about her being difficult not remotely meant to be taken seriously.
How do we know it was not the girlfriend that killed her son and set up his mother? That seems more plausible.
I looked at the picture of the mother at them link, and she could not harm a fly.
Im very suspicious of the girlfriend.

According to the first article posted on this, she believed him to indeed be after her wealth.
And as that article was written, it seemed she was right.
Whether it was murder or self defense hasn’t been conclusively shown, but I am inclined to give her the benefit of a doubt absent furthur evidence.
I am not willing to begin debating this with some unwarranted assumption that she was incompetent or demented os whatever. Nothing which happened indicates that.
Be good to your kids. They pick the nursing home.
Reading this story, I’m thankful that mother was easier to convince to move into assisted living 11 years ago.
Yes, I thought the same when I read this story.
