You could teach them all to swim in a cave pool, and get them out.

That’s not the problem. WHERE to drill and how to set up a drilling rig on a mountainside is the problem.

Cave diving should be left to experts. The best they can hope for is to train the kids for full head scuba gear and take them out one at a time as if they were a package.

He told the Sunday Times magazine in 2013: 'Panic and adrenaline are great in certain situations but not in cave-diving. What you want is nice and boring. 'If something goes wrong 10 kilometres down an underwater tunnel, you usually have until your air runs out to find a solution or make your peace.' The two Englishmen that made the first contact, are among the very best.
They said it was "gnarly".
If this was your child, what would you choose?

The drilling is the easy part. Knowing where to drill is just about impossible.
At least with the miners in Chile they knew exactly where they could drill. Not so with the Thai kids. GPS doesn’t work underground.

I used to work with a lady who did cave diving as a hobby. Its incredibly dangerous; several of her friends died doing it.
I have been diving since 1994 and will NOT get near a cave. Too damn Dangerous!!
How far back are they?

Can’t even imagine. Im having a difficult time even reading your passage. And people do this for “fun”?
To: NorthMountain
Passages are very narrow and visibility is nil. I thought of that, and then I remembered what my former coworker talked about ... and thought it was probably a very bad idea.In fact, maybe the reason the 2 rescuers are staying with the kids is they don't want to try to swim out of there.

I have been diving since 1994 (Rescue diver). Check out the article in post 31. Trying to bring the kids out on SCUBA “nails” it!

The cave passage is flooded, in some places 16 feet. There is not enough opening for a diver with an air tank. And the boys do not know how to swim.. They are 4 miles into the cave.

Just take a full day and teach those kids scuba right there where they are
Would that be your choice if it was your son?

Another article mentioned they were making accurate maps of the cave system.
Included a photo of a yellow box about the size of a footlocker full of sensors and recorders.
But they have to drag it through the tunnels.
Not an easy task.

Either way, if they didn’t know how to swim, they could be attached to divers and be out in MUCH less time than 4 months.
This story doesn’t pass the smell test. Not to mention the smell, disease and contamination is going to be horrendous in 4 months. They’re healthy today so bring them out before they get sick and it’s impossible.
