A massive water main break in Philadelphia sent tens of thousands of gallons of water rushing through the streets in Center City, causing power outages, road closures and bus detours during the Tuesday morning commute.
The 48-inch main reportedly broke around 4 a.m. just blocks away from City Hall. It was not immediately clear what caused the incident, but two hours later, water was still gushing through the area.
This is the worst water main break Ive ever seen, a Philadelphia Water Department spokesperson told FOX29.

On the bright side, it cleaned the streets.
Downtown Philly becomes a big ‘swimming hole’.....
But seriously the heat was intense yesterday and I’ll guess that was likely the cause of the break.
It flooded an Ihop restaurant! Nothing worse than soggy pancakes.
Democrat city governments. Always doing plastic banana displays for the cameras and nothing for their city.
My first thought. Second thought, how will they try to make this “Trump’s fault!”
This could get weird.
In our Philadelphia neighborhood all the nice old trees were slowly dying. The cause was that the underground gas lines leak so badly that up to 40% of the natural gas distributed by PSWG, is lost and never billed. On calm cool mornings you could smell gas everywhere. That was 20 years ago.
A whole bunch of damaged electrical gear. Someone is about to make a fortune repairing the extensive damage.
That’s what “emergency recall” procedures and cooperative agreements are for. If Philly can’t find enough guys to fix this, I would think that available workers from nearby cities could be there in a couple of hours at most to help out. Plus, there are likely Army Corps of Engineers units not too far away. A four-foot main is not the kind of thing that can be handled by the second-string crew.
The Schukyll Expressway once had an entire section of highway heave about three feet up in the air from extreme heat. Coolest thing I ever saw. It wasn’t a slow process. It just launched.
Here in Memphis they just park city utility trucks blocking all access streets. Then the skilled hired contractors fix the problem and exit the scene. Then the utility crews foreman gives the local media interviews on how tough of a job it was and asks for praise for a job well done.
Yes, but since when did facts matter to stupid leftists? If they cared about facts or logic, they wouldn’t be leftists.
In Kensington, while repairing one, it was found to be a hollowed out log with iron straps.
Late 80's/early 90's, a main broke near Erie & Torrosdale aves. A big sink-hole formed, took out the trolley tracks, created a traffic mess for a while.
It was repaired, hole filled, tracks repaired, all good.
There are 3 large mains crossing that section. And another promptly ruptured. A massive sinkhole formed, it was there for months. How the engineers would not think to replace/fortify the other two mains is beyond me.
God bless the IBEW.
Feces floats.
Hope it cleaned the underground of all the bums piss. I imagine Suburban Station could be a mess.
And container power. Probably 100 megawatt of diesel powered electricity.
