Devin Nunes warns Obama officials: Willingly testify on Russia investigation or face subpoenas

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes, R-Calif., warned that if Obama administration officials he referred to a congressional task force for testimony on the Russia investigation refuse to cooperate, they will face subpoenas.

Nunes wrote a letter Monday to House Oversight Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., and House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., with a list of 10 names from the Obama-era State Department and White House on Monday, urging them to interview these individuals in an "open setting."

During a Monday evening interview on Fox News, Nunes emphasized that because all the people on his list are American citizens, they can be compelled to testify.

"They can plead the Fifth," he told host Laura Ingraham. "This isn't going to be like the documents where we've had to continue to fight with the Justice Department in order to have access to documents. This is much different. These are all American citizens. They will, if they do not agree to appear under oath, and testify, then they will be subpoenaed. That I could tell you for sure."

It’s like Mike Yanagita (Steve Park) in Fargo.

It's a Radison, so it's pretty good.

I disagree. All the grandstanding is getting really old.

As I’ve explained, Congress really can’t compel anything. The only time they MIGHT force DOJ/witnesses to do anything is at budget time by withholding a budget line til they get what they want.

Oops. That went by in January, won’t be back this year. There have been RARE instances where the Sgt. At Arms has been dispatched to bring MEMBERS in for a vote, but I can’t ever recall him being sent to round up a subponeaed witness. Certainly that wouldn’t go far at DOJ where you have people with badges & guns.

So either these guys impeach some of the DOJ people and hold them in contempt, or shut down.

I strongly suspect Chairman Nunes thinks the next step ought to be impeachment, but he has to obey MisSpeaker Ryan and do it this way, even though Mr Nunes knows it’s a delaying tactic.

IMO.

As I've explain Congress has the power to incarcerate and to impeach and remove. The Senate would never remove Rosenstein, but the president could remove Rosenstein. He will have the perfect excuse to do so after Rosenstein fails to meet the July 6 deadline, and is held in contempt.

All the grandstanding is getting really old.

Trump has called Nunes a great patriot and he has thanked Nunes for doing what you think is "getting really old".

Impeachment is a seven step process that, as I’VE EXPLAINED, takes the senate.

Please tell me what universe you live in where the Senate will remove anyone from DOJ.

And if they do go the impeachment route without the senate, that alone takes about six months.

Trump will not remove RR. Trump also praised the House immigration bills.

Both of them.

Yep, the House antics are really getting old. They have no power.

What part of "the Senate would never remove Rosenstein", which is what I said, do you not understand?

Trump will not remove RR.

Ah, another prediction stated as fact. Those "antics are really getting old". You don't know if Trump will remove RR.

Yep, the House antics are really getting old.

Well then you disagree with Trump who thinks Nunes is a hero.

They have no power.

You are making an excuse for Paul Ryan. As I've described it, Congress does have the power. It's just that the leadership is too afraid or too corrupt to use it.
