~The FReeper Canteen Presents~ Road Trip: Redstone Arsenal, Alabama Redstone Arsenal (RSA) is a United States Army post adjacent to Huntsville in Madison County, Alabama, United States and is part of the Huntsville-Decatur Combined Statistical Area. The Arsenal is a garrison for a number of tenants including the United States Army Materiel Command, Army's Aviation and Missile Command, the Missile Defense Agency of the Department of Defense, and NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center. Originally a chemical weapons manufacturing facility for World War II, the arsenal became the focal point of the Armys rocket and space projects, including development of the first U.S. ballistic missiles and space launch vehicles in the 1950s. Redstone Arsenal remains the center of testing, development, and doctrine for the Army's missile programs. Besides the U.S. Army Materiel Command and the U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Life Cycle Management Command, Redstone houses the Tactical UAV Project Office, Redstone Test Center (RTC), the Missile Defense Agency, the Missile and Space Intelligence Center, and other operations.
After operating as a tenant on Redstone Arsenal for over half a century, the Ordnance Munitions and Maintenance School was moved to Fort Lee, Virginia.
Redstone Arsenal continues to host the Marshall Space Flight Center, NASA's field center for propulsion analysis and development, which developed the Saturn rocket family in the 1960s and propulsion systems for the Space Shuttle in the 1970s and '80s.

I See You
July 3, 2018
The Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.
Psalm 121:8
When Xavier was two, he darted into one aisle after another in a small shoe store. Hiding behind stacks of shoeboxes, he giggled when my husband, Alan, said, I see you.
Moments later, I saw Alan dash frantically from aisle to aisle, calling Xaviers name. We raced to the front of the store. Our child, still laughing, ran toward the open door leading to the busy street outside.
Within seconds, Alan scooped him up. We embraced as I thanked God, sobbed, and kissed our toddlers chubby cheeks.
A year before I became pregnant with Xavier, Id lost our first child during the pregnancy. When God blessed us with our son, I became a fearful parent. Our shoe store experience proved I wouldnt always be able to see or protect our child. But I discovered peace as I learned to turn to my only sure source of helpGodwhen I struggled with worry and fear.
Our heavenly Father never takes His eyes off His children (Psalm 121:14). While we cant prevent trials, heartache, or loss, we can live with confident faith, relying on an ever-present Helper and Protector who watches over our lives (vv. 58).
We may encounter days when we feel lost and helpless. We may also feel powerless when we cant shield loved ones. But we can trust that our all-knowing God never loses sight of usHis precious and beloved children.
Thank You for watching over our loved ones and us, Lord.
God always keeps His eye on His children.
Psalms 120134 are known as Pilgrim Songssongs for pilgrims ascending to Jerusalem (nlt). God commanded all male Jews to come to the temple to observe the three annual feasts (see Deuteronomy 16:16): Unleavened Bread (Passover), Weeks (Pentecost), and Tabernacles. As pilgrims trod up the hilly paths to Jerusalem, they sang from these psalms.
When we embark on a journey, we often pray for journeying mercies for safety is foremost on our minds. Psalm 121known as The Travelers Psalmis a prayer addressing our safety and security concerns as we journey through life. Even as the psalmist speaks of unknown dangers, he affirms Gods divine protection and preservation. He reminds us that God is our Helper, giving us the security and stability we need (vv. 13). And because God is our Keeperwatching our every step (vv. 48)we can pray in confident trust, In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, O Lord, will keep me safe (Psalm 4:8 nlt).
How does being led by God, our Good Shepherd, empower you to walk through the darkest valley? (Psalm 23:4).

I remember in the late 50s. After Sputnik, we were desperately trying to launch a satellite. Probably because of JFK, they kept letting the Navy try. Every time the missile would blow up on the launching pad.
Finally they let the Army guys at Redstone Arsenal give it a try. They were headed by Von Braun. They succeeded in their very first try.

I was at Redstone Arsenal for nine months (Nov 66-Aug 67), attending school for Illuminator Radar used in the HAWK Missile System, both high-power and low-power. Werner Von Braun was there at the time working on the Saturn V rocket.
Spent the next two years at Schweinfurt, W (at that time) Germany, until July 69, facing down Leonid Breschnev’s hordes on the Eastern side of the Fulda Gap. 32 Army Air Defence Command.
Wouldn’t trade a million dollars for the experience ... wouldn’t have taken a million dollars to extend it with a reenlistment. Three years active duty was enough.

Hi Everybody!
I too have been “slammed” rescheduling all my Wednesday students to today, plus the regular Monday students.
BUT...I rode Blue and it was lovely.
A small price to pay to celebrate America’s Birthday! :-)

Howdy, PRO.
Have a good day? Kicked back and lazy or did you do “fun” stuff like shopping or mowing?
Another roasty-toasty day here but we got a quick shower to cool things off a touch. Just in time since I had to make a run into town for medicine for Jade and a quick Wally World stop.

Kennedy was just the junior Senator from Massachusetts in the 1950s, he really didn’t have that kind of pull with the Eisenhower administration.
The decision to go with the Navy’s Vanguard rocket for the satellite launch instead of the Army Ballistic Missile Agency’s already successful Redstone rocket had something to do with the satellite program being a civilian International Geophysical Year project. The Eisenhower administration wanted to keep our military rockets and von Braun out of the public eye.
