Former Republican Nominee for President wants to avoid a defeat for Trump's SCOTUS nominee
Cindy McCain has been offered her husband's Senate seat
Senator John McCain will resign his US Senate seat on July 4, 2018, says an aide who asked not to be named because he was not authorized to speak to the press.
"In the end, it was about Kennedy resigning from the Supreme Court," said the aide. "Confirming a (SCOTUS) replacement before the election is considered in the interest of the national Republican party, so that it doesn't become an issue for Dems to run on in every race," said the aide, meaning every race for Senate or Congress.
The Aide indicated that the Senator wanted to wait until June 1 to resign, so that his seat would not be on the ballot along with retiring Jeff Flake. Republican Gov. Doug Ducey will appoint a Senator to serve until the 2020 election.
The aide said that Ducey has quietly offered McCain's seat to Cindy, but the 64 year old wife of Senator John McCain has made no decision as of yet. "Understandably, she doesn't want to think about it," he added.

Kelli Ward sounds good. Lost by 10 to McCain but had the courage to oppose him. Would love to see her get the Senate Seat.
I saw this last night. I did not post it because I was not sure if the source was good or not.
Who would be your second choice?
I live in Congresswoman Debbie Dingell’s district. She married the relic John Dingell. That qualified her to run and get his seat.
He spoke at the library where I worked and Dingell was aware of his surroundings, his eyes followed movement well and he hardly ever drooled on his necktie.
Able to always vote yes for Dem bills. Stayed in Congress a few more years but then gave it up. Qualified to stay as long as Diane Feinstein.
I am becoming very skeptical. Not a single mainstream news outlet is repeating this. If it were true it would be all over FOX CNN the WASH COMPOST etc.
Only selfishness links the two. The selfish vindictive old man sees a glimmer of hope to use the SCOTUS confirmation to maintain a presence on the senate he dies.
The man is scum. If she accepts his wife is scuma.
He should be honorable, resign and allow the governor to appoint whom ever he wants. Absent that, after the resignation, The governor should renege on the promise and should tell McCain to go to hell. He can then appoint whomever he wants.
I suspect that people in AZ, gullible as they are, will rally to become Cindy’s biggest boosters.
Since there are 54 Republican seanators, even without Flake and McCain, it would be 52-48 without Pence’s vote. I don’t see how this doesn’t go through despite Dems hand wringing.
That was a good call. If this has been up since last night and no one else has picked up the story then, bluntly, it’s BS.
Not this AZ voter!!!
It’s 51 counting Collins. Remember Doug Jones took the AL seat in 2017.
AZ media has been very, very quiet lately.
AZ has had lots of Democrats in high office. McPain would have unbeatable as a Democrat too, or would he?
Is Brewer still well? Appoint her!
I think he’s been gone since that cellphone photo of the closeup what looks like a corpse. No fake tweets after that from McCain’s wife or staff.
ok gotcha. When I did a search it said 54-45, so must have been an old web page.
