Trump Administration: Migrant Families Can Be Detained For More Than 20 Days
WAMU-FM ^ | June 29, 2018 | Tanya Ballard Brown

In response to a federal court order, the Trump administration announced a new policy with regard to migrant families on Friday. The administration will now hold families together for longer than 20 days.

The Trump administration has been widely criticized by opponents and allies over children being separated from their parents by U.S. authorities at the border. President Trump signed an executive order on June 20 that ended the policy, but in his remarks said the government was going to “keep the families together. I didn’t like the sight or the feeling of families being separated.”

To do this, however, would require modifications to a decades-old settlement called the Flores agreement, which limits the amount of time children can be held in federal detention to 20 days.

On Tuesday, a judge in California set a 30-day deadline for reuniting parents and children. In the court filing on Friday, the Justice Department argued that now that the judge has barred separation, the government could detain families until their legal hearings have concluded.

“…. for the reasons explained, the Flores Agreement permits the Government to detain families together given the nationwide order in Ms. L that bars the separation of families in DHS custody. To comply with the Ms. L injunction, the government will not separate families but detain families together during the pendency of immigration proceedings when they are apprehended at or between ports of entry and therefore subject to the Ms. L injunction.”

NPR’s John Burnett reports that the Department of Homeland Security “favors detention, saying detained immigrants cannot abscond and skip their immigration court hearings — and makes them easier to deport if they don’t receive asylum.”

Construction of tent encampments is expected begin after July 4 on two military bases in Texas, which will serve as housing for migrant families apprehended at the border.

“The Trump Administration has been engaged — since January of 2017 — in restoring order to the lawlessness at the southwest border and protecting our nation’s citizens, but we are beholden to a broken immigration system that Congress has refused to fix and that courts have exacerbated,” a Justice Department spokesman said in a statement. “While Congress has recessed for the 4th of July holiday, we continue to urge them to act decisively in order to solve the crisis at our border and end ‘catch and release.’ ”

Migrant = Illegal Invader.

Illegal Alien = Illegal Invader.

Undocumented Immigrant = Illegal Invader.

Any questions?

Nope. All answered. Thanks.

What a lot of good folk don’t understand is that a lot of those kids aren’t brought to the US by family members. Many are kidnap victims brought over the border to feed the pedo rings with fresh blood.

When the People get as pissed at the Congress as they are at the illegal invaders, maybe the Congress will be coerced into doing its job....

Was it a trap or is it a wonderful unintended consequence? The maniacs got what they want. Families held together until they’re deported. It’ll make it much easier to deport both the parents and the kids.

Now knowing how his brilliant mind works.....it was a trap. I sure hope they give immediate dna tests. Explain it clearly to the widdle ‘migrants’. If you are not a parent by blood, your child will be deported back to your country and you will go to Gitmo for life for child trafficking.

When those caught at the southern border are sent back; they should be sent back to the southern most place in their home countries as possible to land the military C-130’s used.

At the very least this will make them take longer to return to try again to illegally enter our country and possibly make them think twice about it. At least until there is prison time for 2nd and subsequent offenders. Whatever it takes to make them stop trying. Chain gangs in tent city jails. Working time in prison working the fields or some kind of labor to make something to offset their incarceration costs.

And when is e-verify going into effect? As soon as they find out there are no jobs here; they will start to self-deport. Congress do your job!

My heart is truly heavy about what is happening with so many of these children. Sex trafficking, drug trafficking, initiation into gangs, exploited for cheap labor. The Maniacs With An Agenda don't seem to care about that.

In contrast, look at the "me too" movement. There were some real creeps out there....Weinstein, Cosby, that Doctor for the Gymnasts. But a lot of these whining women? The "me too" is they went along to get something they wanted, like a role in a movie or a promotion. The real victims are the women who didn't put out and lost an opportunity to someone who did. Guys can be jerks and relationships get messy. I get it when there's real abuse. It should be dealt with immediately. But most of these "me too" whiners? Why aren't they more concerned about the Amandas, Lisas, and Michelles of the world who were in captivity for years? About the children who die in the desert? About those who vulnerable Guatemalan girls who come here alone, or even with a parent who can't protect them? For heaven's sake, what President Trump is doing is saving children.

End of rant.

Well...yes and no. The DHS estimates that of the 12,000 "children" currently being detained, 10,000 are here without their parent(s). IOW, 10,000 of those detainees were brought into the country by a coyote/smuggler/human trafficker. Under the new immigrant families EO, the trafficker will no longer be put in the catch-and-release program. Instead they will now be detained along with the illegal child. I don't think that the traffickers are going to like being detained, given the additional time the ICE/DHS will have to investigate them and the fact that they cannot slip back across the border to avoid prosecution. That may result in traffickers thinking twice about bringing children into the country.

President Trump made a campaign promise to address human traffickers. This looks like the beginning of another promise kept.

One other thing: On June 20 when the EO was signed, AG Sessions was quietly talking to Congress about using DNA in the E-Verify system. What will it mean if the DNA of the illegal "parent" doesn't match the DNA of the child in the same cell? That adult would have a lot of esplainin' to do.

The American Left is now openly calling for open borders and an end to our homeland as a sovereign country.

And the Democrat party seems largely onboard with this demand.

Ask the Left:

What is the number of annual immigrant admissions, beyond which it is morally permissible for the USA to enforce immigration law and turn away more migrants? Are we Nazis if we “only” admit one million per year? Morally virtuous at 1.2 million? 2 million? What’s the magic number?

The answer, of course, is that the there is no number, no limit that would satisfy the Left, because they regard our homeland as an abomination, the sooner gone, the better.

Families held together until they’re deported.

Or, if DHS runs out of space, until they are released with a court date when they are supposed to appear. I am not sure this solves all our problems. It gives DHS a little wiggle room.

What happens when the asylum seekers notice that their buddies are not getting deported?
