The Pentagon is analyzing the cost and impact of a large-scale withdrawal or transfer of American troops stationed in Germany, amid growing tensions between President Trump and German Chancellor Angela Merkel, according to people familiar with the work.
The effort follows Trumps expression of interest in removing the troops, made during a meeting earlier this year with White House and military aides, U.S. officials said. Trump was said to have been taken aback by the size of the U.S. presence, which includes about 35,000 active-duty troops, and complained that other countries were not contributing fairly to joint security or paying enough to NATO.
Word of the assessment has alarmed European officials, who are scrambling to determine whether Trump actually intends to reposition U.S. forces or whether it is merely a negotiating tactic ahead of a NATO summit in Brussels, where Trump is again likely to criticize U.S. allies for what he deems insufficient defense spending.

35M troops on the southern border would have a large positive impact. Lots of mechanized troops, they could beput to go use with their equipment. From our lips to his ears.
I am of very nearly 100% German stock so I am not speaking disparagingly of Germans, but they have more or less ascended to the top of the heap in Europe and Germans being Germans...there might still be some value in watching what they are doing.
Left to themselves, over the past couple hundred years, they have shown a definite tendency to not play well with their neighbors.
We don't need another go at fixing Europe.
Doesn't hurt to keep an eye-and a presence-on Japan either.
EXACTLY
That is exactly what is happening. Well said.
The US government has been listening to you for the last 20 years about removing US troops from Germany. For the last 10 years there has been only one US Army combat brigade in Germany, the 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment, stationed at Grafenwoehr in Bavaria. There are a couple of air bases left with a wing or so of USAF fighters/fighter-bombers. US Army Europe headquarters was moved from Heidelberg to Wiesbaden about 5 years ago and is down to a thousand or so soldiers.
The troop pull out began in 1989 with the end of the Cold War. Each of the Kasernes/posts I was assigned to in Germany for my 7 years there were turned back over to the German government by 2008.
We ought to calculate how much yearly dues Germany (and every other Nato country) is bilking us, and simply reduce troops matching those costs.
Then we should calculate how much over the years they’ve taken from us, and send them a bill.....
Why should we protect countries that are purposefully endangering themselves with unrestricted and un-vetted migration?
Plus we do not share their globalist goals.
Ping
“To the keep the German down, keep the Americans in, and the Russians out.”
The article is just the opposite of the headline LOL!
... and good for Trump!
Bulls**t. Im a dual national German myself. The Germans have been entirely emasculated and pose a military threat to no one. Even if they did, we are not the worlds policeman. Let the French and English deal with them.
I started out in Nov 2016 predicting this would come up over the four years. Absolutely no shocker.
I think his speech to NATO (scheduled 11/12 July) will be short and to the point....all this tariff business on the US while we keep keep 65,000 troops in Europe? I think he’ll confirm that the Navy will continue out of the Med, and the UK air wing will stay. Beyond that....everything is on the table to be restructured or brought back to the US. Poland might end up with a Air Wing. Everything else in Germany goes away.
He can say that they will still be in NATO, but the Cold War is way over, and this whole negativity against the US has led to consequences.
God, I haven't been so happy in decades. It's almost like sex, watching Donald Trump terrify the rest of the world. LOL!! I always said I wanted a President that would make the rest of the world stagger back in horror, saying, "They've gone mad!" (happy sigh) Life is good.
Donald Trump is kind of like Santa Claus, isn’t he? LOL... now we’re making up lists.
POLAND!
Out of the UN, and aid to only those who can prove they are in need.
Europe has grown stupid and lazy. Let them defend themselves.

Amen!
A good percentage of my ancestry is German. I lived there twice. I speak the language and have since childhood. I agree with you 100%. Those who think Germany is or could be a potential threat don’t know the country very well.
They are spineless jellyfish. They wouldn’t even fight to defend themselves much less take over anybody else. The pussification of the country is complete. In many ways, I MUCH preferred the older generation to the socialist 68ers and the following generations. Yes their grandparents and great grandparents were seduced by the Nazis and did great harm and we had to fight them and that was a shame and all yada yada yada. My God though! At least they were REAL MEN. We have nothing in common with their pathetic pussy whipped spawn.
With our oil and gas production (and Canada’s) rising, we have increasingly little need to keep getting involved to clean up all the world’s messes. Withdraw. Bring the boys home. Let the places that are inclined to go to hell in a handbasket do just that. Its not our problem.....just keep a good strong Navy and Air Force so that everybody understands not to eff with us.
Bring ‘em home and put them on the border. Stop the invaders from crossing into our country.
If we weren’t going to do this in 1991 we damn sure should have done it in 2003. They showed they’re no “allies” of ours then. To hell with ‘em.
