A Texas woman filed for $1 million in damages from a Chinese buffet after she allegedly suffered a terrifying bout of fried rice syndrome.
Germaine Mobley, 62, said went to Asian King Buffet in Waxahachie for a lunch in 2016 that left her gravely ill in an intensive care unit, the Dallas News reported.
Mobley claimed in the lawsuit that she was sickened by Bacillus cereus, also known as fried rice syndrome, a type of bacteria often found in foods kept at room temperature.
Mobley said she ordered fried rice at the restaurant and began to feel sick during the drive home.

Mobley, who had pre-existing health conditions, went to the hospital the following day when her health continued to deteriorate, according to the news station.
I just started vomiting, she told WFMY. The next morning, I was having problems breathing, so my husband called an ambulance.
Asian King Buffets owner has denied Mobleys allegations that its food made her sick, WFMY reported.

Wonder what kind of "preexisting condition" that the fair lady had.
When in doubt, invent a new “syndrome.”
Surprising that the byline was from a TV station in Greenville NC.
Fried rice syndrome? Oh, B. cereus.
Any food safety experts here?
It could have been worse. It could have been “fried lice syndrome.”
Flied lice syndrome.

Sounds more like bacteria on buffet food syndrome.
It is generally a good rule of thumb not to go to a Chinese buffet in between lunch and dinner, from about 2:30 til they start charging dinner prices.

Maybe worth $25 or a free meal, certainly not $1 million. Crazy people!
If I was the defense lawyer, I would ask for actual samples of other foods she ate outside of the restaurant during previous 48 hours. The litigant has no proof that fried rice had any harmful bacteria. Did she submit a sample of that fried rice to police? Heck no. This is a frivolous law suit by a slip and fall law firm.
It’s all how you prepare it. If you do it Hawaiian style, and put in enough diced pieces of Spam, that will kill off any sort of bacteria that might be present.
Did she eat all the fried rice herself?
