In almost every opinion on the restaurant that famously refused to serve Sarah Huckabee Sanders, there is a too-neat congruence between the moral argument and the meta-political argument. If you think its right and just and admirable to deprive a Trump administration mouthpiece of an evening out in polite society, you probably also think that this sort of direct action is the vital spark that the left needs to mobilize and defeat Trumpism outright.
On the other hand, if you think that the restaurant owner committed an obnoxious breach of the basic bipartisan civility that prevents our empire from becoming 1990s Yugoslavia, you probably think that what she did was basically an in-kind donation to the Trump re-election effort as well.
It should be possible, though, to mix and match to feel a certain sympathy or admiration for the restaurateurs non serviam, but also to believe that its wider application by the Resistance wouldnt do anti-Trump forces any good....

I kinda hope they keep it up, they are only driving more people to the right, and solidifying the ones already here.
Ross is always good for a mish mash of nothingness.
Resistance goes both ways ....
Hypocrisy at its best. No matter what the topic, the Left wants to make it illegal...to force their opinion onto you and limit your freedom of choice. A conservative says if a baker won't bake your cake, find one who will. The Leftist could give a crap about the cake: They want to force every baker to yield to their demands. Take a hike, you hypocrites.
A day or two after the POTUS tweeted that they should be policing up their dirty awnings and windows instead of harassing customers FOX news reported the staff was doing just that. President Donald J. Trump living in their heads rent free.........and they don’t even know it........Hilarious!
Let’s draw some comparisons for perspective.
If I refuse to hire someone because they voted for Hillary/Barack, is that discrimination? Is it illegal?
If I refuse to make a wedding cake for someone that is a known liberal, is that discrimination? Is it ok/legal?
Are “Conservatives” considered a “protected class” of minorities? According to the media, conservatives are NOT the majority, so....
Are “liberals” considered a “protected class”? They are treated as such in the media. Look at the Red Hen case where protesters and Trump supporters are labelled “HATERS”.
I would like to see the tables turned and again expose the hypocrisy. I’d like to see restaraunts post signs that say, “Clinton/Obama supporters are not welcome here.” Let’s see how that goes over.
Sarah Sanders didn’t run to a court to sue for the Red Hen to be forced to serve her. She publicized what they did, and is letting the market take it from there. Far cry from using the might of government to force a Christian baker to make a homosexual wedding cake.
Ross Douthat and the New York Times are total cowards for disabling comments to this article.
Nice deconstruction.

And a pompous mish mash at that: “the restaurateurs non serviam...”
I don’t know that Sarah even publicized the event. Correct me if I’m wrong, but someone at the restaurant posted on social media a note from the restaurant’s kitchen bulletin board indicating that Sarah Sanders had been evicted from the restaurant. Sarah was asked to comment on that post; she did and confirmed that she was asked to leave.
I see they’re still in resist customers mode.
>>>She publicized what they did<<<
Not really. She responded to being questioned about it.
Even then, she did not mention how the Owner assembled a Mob and followed her “Liberal” In-Laws when they decided to go to another Restaurant to eat a Meal.
That was my understanding. It would be kind of weird if she just went and posted about this out of the blue.
Interesting observation. Thanks.
Yes, the fools who own the Red Hen should be allowed to serve who they want to serve. BUT they are not exempt from the negative consequences of their dumbassedness. This is the beauty of the 1A. It allows us to recognize the idiots among us. No litigation necessary in this case. The court of public opinion is speaking for itself.
Wasnt the other restaurant near hers? And even though Sanders and her husband just went home, this pos still harassed her family?
And for that matter, she wasnt even at the restaurant when Sanders and family came in, one of her staff called her and asked what should we do, as if it was some crisis, and she came there and held a meeting, and she and staff decided to tell Sanders to leave. Unbelievable. So if her sorry business goes under and they dont have jobs, good.
