America's gun problem, explained(OK?!)
vox.com ^ | 6/29/2018 | German Lopez

Posted on 06/29/2018 8:01:05 AM PDT by rktman

This has become an American routine: After every mass shooting, the debate over guns and gun violence starts up once again. Maybe some bills get introduced. Critics respond with concerns that the government is trying to take away their guns. The debate stalls. So even as America continues experiencing levels of gun violence unrivaled in the rest of the developed world, nothing happens — no laws are passed by Congress, nothing significant is done to try to prevent the next horror.

So why is it that for all the outrage and mourning with every mass shooting, nothing seems to change? To understand that, it's important to grasp not just the stunning statistics about gun ownership and gun violence in the United States, but America's very unique relationship with guns — unlike that of any other developed country — and how it plays out in our politics to ensure, seemingly against all odds, that our culture and laws continue to drive the routine gun violence that marks American life.

Yawn! The usual line of crap spewed by anti constitution types. Uh, german lopez there is no GUN PROBLEM. They behave as intended until some nut job decides to take one to a safe "GUN FREE ZONE" and perpetrate something like yesterday.

Because passing a law won't do anything to prevent the next horror... in fact, if the law is egregious enough, it might insight the next one.

German, if you careful look at the existing laws on the books, we do not need
gun control, we need more law enforcement and more judicial gonads, to deal with the criminals...there problem solved.

Unrivaled gun violence? Only in a few select counties and they are not different than other violent areas of the world. And gun control only makes the population vulnerable to people with evil intent.

Dear Morons,

Criminals do not obey laws, and Freemen do not obey illegals laws.

Laws aren’t going to help you.

If you want our guns, you’re going to have to fight us for them.

That is all.

The number of privately owned firearms has doubled in the US over the last generation even as violent crime rates and murder rates were cut in half.

Most of the murders with guns are inner city minority drug gangs using illegally obtained pistols. Legal gun owners in the US have a murder rate equivalent to that of Japan - ie very low. Since gun laws would only affect law abiding people and as has already been demonstrated, criminals don’t respect laws - including gun control laws - more of the same is not going to reduce crime rates. Indeed all the evidence is that would just increase crime.

Because the problem is the CULTURE, not the weapon. If it isn’t guns, it will be arson, knives, acid, or trucks on the sidewalk. Just look at Europe.

There are so many root cause cultural problems the past 60 years you cannot name them all. But, I dare say, the all have the same root cause — liberalism.

"gun problem"

It's like a "math problem". That is, a problem solved with a gun.

When I'm assaulted by someone with a deadly weapon, this is a problem solved with tactics and tools.

None of the gun right defenders have asked any of the anti gun gurus whether they think the government will be able to prevent illegal guns form flooding across the border much like illegal drugs and illegal aliens already do.

The only thing I agree with in this post is that if you’re going to carry then keep training at least once a month if not more.

It should be noted, this shooter used a shotgun. I’ve heard it called a “rifle” in 3 news reports. He reloaded. It takes several seconds to a minute to reload a shotgun.

What laws shall we pass to prevent mass shootings with shotguns?

Define shotguns with the catchall Assault Weapons term.

So why is it that for all the outrage and mourning with every mass shooting, nothing seems to change?

Ooh, ooh, that's an easy one to answer:

German Lopez, the author of this article, is not smart enough to understand the real world, and therefore his 'analysis' is garbage.

Rather, German Lopez has all of the intelligence and sophistication and experience that you would expect from a young child.

A 'slow' young child, that is.

The left always seems to want to get to the 'root' of any problem so that they can put a 'progressive' spin on the freedom-hating solution that they inevitably produce. But here the 'solution' is obvious: it's the fault of "toxic progressivity" among ill-prepared and ill-educated 'journalists'.

What can we do to fix the problem of not-so-bright commentators such as German Lopez trying to take on subjects for which they are clearly not suited?

If I were to pretend to knock about a hundred points off of my IQ (in order to 'think' like a 'progressive'), the obvious solution that I would come up with would be 'journalist control'.

Yeah, that's the ticket - 'journalist control'.

No need for those pesky constitutional amendments, just do it.

For the children.

Recent funny story about the term “assault weapon”. My kid was not involved. We were not home. LOL

The kids in our (pretty conservative) neighborhood often have “nerf gun” and/or “air soft” wars/combat games. They are all supposed to have eye protection on all the time. They often pad up as some of the air soft hits at close range can sting and leave welts.

There is at least one kid in the neighborhood that has parents that forbid him to participate. All the kids know he is not allowed to pretend play with anything pertaining to guns or violence (including cops & robbers and “army games”). Apparently, he “sneaks” it. But he has to borrow toys to participate. So he was afforded a nerf gun and glasses in an airsoft battle by one of the other participants.

Apparently the kid learned that rocks were more affective and had better range than the nerf gun. In frustration, the kid from the snowflake family tossed a stone that connected effectively. Here is how the parental conversation went according to my neighbor that relayed it to me...

“Your son threw a rock and hit my kid in the mouth with it.”

“Your kid was shooting him with an assault rifle. He was defending himself.”

“It was an airsoft toy and your kid’s “ASSAULT ROCKS” are far more dangerous than my kids toys.”
