As scores of young people crowded into a hearing room in the Wilson Building on Wednesday, D.C. Council members saw the future of D.C. politics.
“There are multiple future council members and a future mayor in this room,” said D.C. Council member Charles Allen (D-Ward 6).
But before they run for office, Allen wants to make them voters.
A bill he introduced in April would do just that, lowering the voting age to 16.
If passed, the bill would enfranchise up to 10,600 16- and 17-year-olds, according to Census Bureau data.
It would also be historic.
The nation’s capital would become the first municipality in the country to allow minors to vote for president, and the biggest city to let them vote in local races.
In recent years, three nearby Maryland communities — Takoma Park, Hyattsville and Greenbelt — along with Berkeley, Calif. — have lowered the voting age in their municipal elections to 16. There are similar campaigns underway in cities as large as San Francisco and towns as small as Ashfield, Mass.

This is another example of why statehood for the District of Corruption is a bad idea.
Why not four? Then liberal parents can make thier kids vote what ever Democrat is on the ballot.
If they are allowed to vote, they should be allowed to own and carry firearms.
Liberals are dependent on an ignorant, impressionable electorate.
We should rethink allowing them even to drive until they can recognize the difference between reality and video.
The real question is: “Should 16-year-olds be allowed to vote Republican?” and I expect the answer is an overwhelming NO. :)
They would have 12 year olds vote if they could get away with it.
Let’s just make it the whole list....at 16, you get adult charges in court, can buy and consume alcohol, carry firearms, and be out as late as you desire.
What’ll happen here is that they will pass this, and in less than five years....some 16-year-old gang-player will announce his candidacy for the city council, and get enough of the 16-to-25 year old votes to win.
The reality is, very few 16 year olds would care enough to vote. The hurdle of getting out of bed and putting the phone down is just too high.

It should be common knowledge that the Left’s strategy is based on achieving long term goals. They’re a bit more patient. Hence, Kennedy being able to dupe Reagan in ‘86 and the subsequent flood of immigrants, that vote for the Dem’s. Now they are pushing for more and more immigrants for this same reason. Especially the young ones, the teenagers. In 8 years, they’ll have been completely indoctrinated in US schools and will be able to vote.
Now they want 16yr olds, who spend more time with their face in a smartphone screen and on Instagram, then anything else.
They must know something. They must have some data somewhere that tells them that without this kind of help, they’re doomed. If any of those color coded election maps are accurate, the US is pretty effin’ Conservative. It’s only the densely populated, urban centers, where all the immigrants and Leftists live, that keep any semblance of balance. Wonder what a proportional allocation of Electoral Votes would do to election outcomes.
Hell, if the 17th Amendment were gone today, you’re looking at at 62 Republican Senators from the Red states, 22 from the Blue states and splitting the rest, you’re looking for at least 6 more Republican’s in the Senate.

Nah, even better. Let pregnant women have TWO votes if they are carrying a single child with 1 vote added for each additional child being carried.
Until/unless a comprehensive (unbiased) curriculum of history/economics/civics is re introduced into the schools then they will not be ‘voting’ as we understand voting. They will be tools of the last TV program they saw, the last magazine they read, the last rapper they heard, the last politician they saw/heard on the news...
It's entirely irresponsible to to govern the most powerful, wealthy national entity in the know universe by relying on the emotions of immature and uninformed voters. Most of our current problems can be explained this way.... a lot of demanding, emotional and immature voters who can't think past the immediate, temporary, concrete and personal got us where we are right now.
Same for immigrants... if you are NOT assimilated or tolerably fluent in English... how on earth can you comprehend the issues much less, vote? You will be exploited and cheated at every turn.
When my grandparents came here in the 20’s, they had to demonstrate at least a functional grasp of the language. I am sure that was meant to assure they could work and also escape being exploited by ANY politicians.
