It’s a less bad thing than if it had been passed and signed. Dodging a bullet is less bad than getting shot. But somebody’s got to take out the sniper.

Trump's Presidency seems to have forced many former and would-be open borders Republicans to back down on their agenda or at least keep quiet about it.

Knowing that Trump would veto an amnesty bill anyway, many establishmentarian Congressional Republicans have concluded that being seen as team players with the President on this and other issues will help them more in the long run with their constituents than standing alongside Democrats on immigration.

I think we agree on that...it did make me chuckle a little reading your post..."...Dodging a bullet is less bad than getting shot..."

I thought, well, I can't disagree with THAT!

This was the bill that gave Trump essentially what he asked for, and a hundred Repubs voted against it. I want names. How depressing. We’ve long known it, but its another reminder just how lost is the GOP.

You couldn't be more correct....this bunch of Repubs are as weird a group as I've ever seen....PATHETIC

You have to accept amnesty applicants from non-contiguous states at the border.

No we don't. Send them back.

You can’t keep kids with their family

Sure we can, chuck the whole bunch of them back over the border!

Why NOT process amnesty applicants at the US embassy in their home country.

I agree. But I believe that they PROPER way for them to apply for asylum (which I think is what you really mean) under current law is for them to do it at the consulate in their own country. Not on our border.

Coming to our border, crossing it and asking for asylum is a criminal act and those who attack our borders should either be shot or suffer a lifetime ban (for them AND their children) on ever entering our country.

Beyond that though, I still don't see why you say the system is broken? When properly enforced it makes it difficult for people to enter our country and makes sure that only those with something to contribute can make it in. That is what an immigration policy is SUPPOSED to do!

(although we do need to end chain immigration and birthright citizenship. Only children of citizens who are born here should be counted as citizens)

Many upper uniparty probably had some internal stats to know this was the most likely outcome.

OMG. Did I actually say “amnesty”? I meant asylum. And I thought I made it clear that they should do it in their own country, at the consulate or the embassy. If they show up at the border expecting sympathy for stupidly crossing a dessert and endangering themselves and their kids, stick them on a helicopter and fly them back home, or just tell them to get lost. If they want to apply for asylum in Mexico, they can go thataway.

So Ryan will exit the House the same day that Mittens enters the Senate.

“This was the bill that gave Trump essentially what he asked for, and a hundred Repubs voted against it.”

It was the one referred to as the “compromise bill” and it was full of amnesty small, amnesty large, amnesty every which way.

You’re saying that THAT was “essentially” what Trump “asked for’???

You’re right. I just saw Goodlatte’s name on it, and thought that meant it was the good bill. Then I scanned through it and realized it was a load of crap.

Nothing about ending the lotter, or chain migration, the section on “repatriating minors” is incoherent and doesn’t seem to actually repatriate anyone.

So, I took it all back in post 54. Now I’m mad, for the opposite reason, its like Paul Ryan is rubbing our nose in it.

Now if there is a red tsunami, we might see something like that after the mid-terms.

Only if you get out and vote for conservatives in your district primary - many folk ignore the primaries. After seeing what happened in NY CD-14 with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (SOCIALST) winning, I would say the commies are out in force for the primaries.

“An avalanche of great news and winning this week and it’s only half over.”

I felt that way on Tuesday! I’m not sure I can make it to the end of this week, LOL! :)

(Well, he DID warn us we’d be tired of winning. President Trump is trying really hard to make that come true!)

Yes, it is winning. There is no hurry and we can elect more Trumpsters and produce a better bill.

This provides yet more ammo to use in the elections.

Now the Democrats can be charged with refusing to help the Reamers since they voted down two bills.

Yep, several Freepers are a little stunned here at midweek, but I think we'll all survive the winning so far and the rest of this week, and then be ready for more in the new month of July, and the remaining six months of 2018.
