Edwin Jackson is set to start for the A's, his MLB-record-tying 13th team

Back on June 6, the A's announced that they had signed Edwin Jackson to a Minor League contract. Not a particularly noteworthy move on its face, sure, but longtime readers of Cut4 realized that it put some MLB history within reach: Oakland marked Jackson's 13th organization over 15 big league seasons -- leaving the veteran righty just a phone call away from tying Octavio Dotel's all-time record.

Just a few short weeks later, we're pleased to report that the day has finally come: The A's have called Jackson up, and he's now set to take the hill for Oakland's game against the Tigers on Monday afternoon.

This fellow reminds me of the late great "Suitcase Simpson".

More about "Suitcase" soon.

Until then, Congrats to Edwin for his extensive travels.

Although he didn’t get the win, Jackson pitched well allowing 1 run, struck out 7 and walked no one in 6 full innings.

Still, the A’s managed to beat the Tigers.

I wonder if the large collection of uniforms he has modeled will go on the market.

All seriousness aside, though, you’ve gotta admire the man. Plus, he did pitch a no-hitter in the bigs. That tells you that on a given day, he has had superior stuff to throw toward the plate.

I love baseball.

Suitcase Simpson’s baseball reference --- apparently it looks like he changed teams about 14 times in his career. And, he was a pretty darn good player.

Baseball is a funny game.

When I posted the story, I hadn't known that it was written from my city's perspective, Pittsburgh. But it's pretty great.

Reminds me of the "Traveling Jagrs" -- the fan club of legendary hockey player Jaromir Jagr. They add one member with a new jersey every time he plays for another team.

They travel to NHL games wearing wigs of his signature mullet from his early days in pro hockey.

When he signed with the Calgary Flames last year they held a press conference where they announced they were looking for a new member to wear a Calgary jersey. He showed up and crashed their press conference! LOL.

in shape ……. He wants to play until he’s 50.

I am a lifetime Pittsburgher and watched this kid when he was young. He's a brilliant player and a nice guy.

Great post. As a long time American expat in Ontario, I’ve really grown to appreciate hockey.

Did any player cycle through all of the original six pre-1967? Based on reading the autobiography of Gordie Howe, I’d be surprised, but my knowledge of hockey lore is still fairly limited. However, I imagine that some day one of my sons (or God willing grandsons) will aid in further remedying that defect.

I just looked it up. A guy named Vic Lynn was the only one to play for all of the Original Six.

Thanks.

I don’t know if you went on and look up his stats, but he looks like he led a fascinating hockey life. 18 teams in five pro leagues—but his best moments seem, alas, to have been as a Leaf. (Go Habs)

Jackson came up with the Dodgers as a highly touted 19 year old rookie in 2003 and beat Randy Jackson in his first start. But he pitched poorly the next two years and by 2006 he was traded to Tampa Bay for two marginal pitchers.

Well, his no-hitter was w/ the Diamondbacks. But the HOF isn't in his future. However, his hats (or uniforms) might get displayed there, to dramatize his many iterations!
