Legendary Austin music and BBQ venue Stubb's has pledged to stop using plastic drinking straws. In a tweet, Stubb's said they would discontinue use "effective immediately" and also highlighted just how many straws Americans use in a day: We pledged to stop using plastic drinking straws. Americans use approximately 500 million straws daily. That's enough straws to circle the earth 2.5x. Effective immediately we will no longer be using straws. Join us in fighting pollution by saying 'no' to plastic drinking straws!

How about paper straws? Are they PC?
They could fight pollution by closing and urging patrons to just stay home.

I welcome the return of paper straws. In my youth, there was nothing more entertaining than blowing the paper off a straw and hitting my cousin in the face with it. A return to the 50s!
They made us stop using paper things to save Trees ,LOL

Stubbs is a great music venue, but the BBQ is far below the Austin average.
And do they think people will stop drinking? Paper straws are useless and metal or glass straws are dangerous.
Paper straws and paper bags are offensive to Austin’s treehuggers.
Just recently, I did in fact blow the cover off a clear plastic straw. The problem was that the plastic cover is tough and hard to tear.
The problem we have is not with straws but Psuedo Ameritrash that demand we be Europe.
Until they are beaten literally into the ground there will be no letup.
And plastic tableware that waiters carry around in their nasty back pockets.
Well, straws are for sissies and women anyway so what is the big deal?!
Never been, but can’t be worse than Ruby’s. Was dragged to both Ruby’s and everyone got sick from both.
