Isn’t it fun being “backwards”?

That’s surprising. I’m in Alabama and recently got a Real ID. I didn’t have to wait long at all.

I guess it depends on which town/county you’re in.

Found the article at yahoo and read it. I will be honest, I misunderstood a real ID as being a state issued ID. A freeper pointed it out to me in a reply what was meant (post 43) which I replied to thanking him (post 55). I don't mind my misguided ignorance being corrected. I also understand what you meant by "read the part of the article posted" because it clearly states "REAL ID".

My bad.

“Isn’t it fun being “backwards”?”

It sure is:)

I was in and out in no time. No muss, no fuss.

It can be a real blessing living in a “backwards” Southern small town:)

You are wrong. All states including California pitched a fit to delay Real ID because the cost was a sizable burden to the states.

It was in 2007 that Bush finally agreed and Real ID was delayed. The really poor states were able to delay it further with Lousiana, Missouri, Arkansas, and some others delaying until Oct 2018

I’ve had my license renewed and had to test the last three times.

The big-city California DMVs with their ridiculously long lines and rude, inefficient staffs serve an important function: They instill a proper contempt for government.

If you prefer to avoid that experience, drive to the nearest small town DMV. It's worth a long drive.

Yeah, a common term. I have an old Nissan Pick-up that fills that need

CT really solved this problem using AAA—no membership required and no long lines with the obese masses at a DMV office in urban squalor.

You can just walk into a AAA office in a posh building in a fancy suburb and take in the sights of the beautiful soccer moms while conducting DMV business.

(Don’t tell anyone the secret. :-) )

_That_ part of life has gotten _much_ better!

I just went to the DMV in Virginia and that happened to the people next to me. The driver’s license was considered proof of identification but they needed a passport as proof of citizenship to do anything, like register their car.

DMV is government at work. There is no competition. If you don’t like your DMV office, you can go to another one, but it’s the same there.
The “workers” have no reason to treat you with respect, or to work hard. If you complain, it does no good. If they’re non-White, they won’t be fired. If one is incompetent, going to the next one won’t matter - he’s incompetent too.

Down on the MS Gulf Coast ot’s a snap - have to renew in person every other time and can do it on-line for the rest....last time I went in, I was offered a double-term renewal and I jumped on it. Also never have long waits when it comes to tag renewal time - well staffed and they all work to take care of their customers....

We have a perfectly good real ID system already in place. Fedzilla should just issue all citizens a passport, renewed periodically at no out of pocket cost to the citizen. FWIW, I don’t use my NYS drivers license for ID. I use my passport, and there are never any issues.

Nah. I prefer the drivers license for day to day life. It is rare when I leave the country. A driver’s license fits in my wallet too.

Ah, but NYS offers 3 kinds of ID. 3 guesses why. I just use my passport.
