With our do nothing Senate and Congress maybe it is time for a change. Face it Obama and Trump both could only get things done by ruling as an Emperor. These politicians are doing nothing and living the high life on taxes payers backs, right Mr. RYAN?

Sounds like the first step might be to bring back the old Department of Health, Education and Welfare; which had been broken out into several new departments.

Labor and education both spend heavily of training programs - no doubt a lot of redundancy, inconsistency and inefficiency.

They couldn’t get 40 Republican votes for this.

They don't have to. These are all executive branch departments/bureaus. Trump can do what he pleases without Congressional oversight. They are basically departments overseen by cabinet members.

Here is a dumb question, I’m sure .... why does Congress get a say in how the Executive Branch organizes itself?? It seems to me that any way the Exec wants to organize to “faithfully enforce the nation’s laws” is its prerogative.

Why am I wrong????

The House has the “Education and the Workforce” Committee.
(It was formerly called the “Education and Labor,” Committee).

The Senate has the “Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions” Committee...I’m not sure about its historical name(s).

This is how some companies will handle problem employees.

Move them to another department at an off-site location.

Then change their hours to rotating swing shifts.

Have them make photocopies of all the archived paper files in the company. Put a deadline on completing the job.

Make sure the photocopier is on its last legs.

Then out the door they'll go, usually on their own.

The old Reagan “Cut the Government” issue.

This will play well with voters.

There is no end to the number of horror stories of Government excess, that can be rolled out.

Obviously they have to on some things: "The reorganization plan faces tough odds in Congress, where even aside from the dispute over work requirements, any reorganization faces opposition from congressional committees that could lose power if their jurisdictions change."

Advise and consent is their only role. As with judges, Trump could make these changes during a recess.

Shutter them both along with the others. Return all health, education, labor, welfare, etc, functions to the states where they belong per the constitution.

Good point Jim. The goal should be to minimize the size of the federal government so it can focus on the few things it is mandated to do in the US Constitution.

Of course the left is all about making the federal gov so big it controls everything from cradle to grave putting all the power in one set of socks in one drawer rather than spreading it out over 50 drawers so people have a choice in what kind of state and government they prefer.

Well, obama proved how that one drawer can be corrupted, and it may take a decade or two to weed out all the bad actors in that one DC drawer because of it.

Now! Now! don't tell those who will lose their jobs via the merge and then later eliminate everyone as the department is eliminated.

Two departments he wants to eliminate. Two step process: Merge, then eliminate.

Outside of that, everyone else is stuck in a system that doesn’t do as much for them as it could.

This is probably why home schooling is becoming more popular. It's actually much harder for a parent to do but is so much better for the kid IMHO. The kids can still go to the schools for extracurricular activities but the book learning is at home. A good at-school science class with all the equipment might be one of those they go to the public school for.

Not so much, no.

Article I, Section 8: "To make all laws which shall be necessary and proper for carrying into execution the foregoing powers, and all other powers vested by this Constitution in the government of the United States, or in any department or officer thereof."

“a cheese pizza is regulated by the FDA for safety, while a pepperoni pizza is regulated by the Department of Agriculture.” Yes, Government bureaucracy needs to be pruned back on a regular basis. It is long overdue.

Glad we are talking about pizza. It is long over-due. :-)

I support shop & other programs in HS but not workforce development. Should not be the purview of Fedzilla.

I would eliminate most of the Federal Government. Most of it is Constitutionally unnecessary.
