WASHINGTON - (AP) -- Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen has drafted an executive action for President Donald Trump that would direct her department to keep families together after they are detained crossing the border illegally. She was at the White House where Trump told reporters he would be "signing something" shortly.
The effort to end what has become a major crisis for the Trump administration was outlined by two people familiar with Nielsen's thinking who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss the effort before its official announcement.
It's unclear exactly what the president might be supporting, but he said he would be signing something "in a little while."

It was put in place by the 9th circuit to protect kids from being used by human traffickers. So someone will say "hey, they are ignoring a court order and kids are now endangered!", some state AG I suppose. Doesn't matter, since it advances the leftist agenda to get Trump the entity bringing the challenge wont be tarnished as bad. And once a challenge is levied the EO will be overturned.
If it isn't, well, I can live with that if the President doesn't take that as a sign that he can legislate from the Oval Office in other matters. Your mileage may vary.

Yes, this is about open borders...and eventually no borders. That’s their ultimate goal. However, they are going to have a difficult pivot - this will not resonate with the gullible population like kids separated. They will get much less traction. Nevertheless, the obvious capability of the American population to fall head-over-heels for this kind of made-up schlock is not a good marker for our future.

OK...this EO will deal with a small minority of the ‘children’ detained apart from the adults who brought them over the border illegally. What about the rest? The vast majority. Do they have to stay with the coyotes or sex traffickers who smuggled them over the border?
Yes, its all manufactured. You can’t detain children for more than 20 days... so the only way to keep families together would be to have their parents completely processed or you have to release the entire family.. and they just evaporate...

Congress passed a law and the 9th circuit also ordered that children be seperated from the adults who accompanied them, to prevent them from being used by child traffickers or pedophiles. Trump has cited this numerous times himself when he says he needs democrats to help him “change the law”. Now if he just says “heck with it, I’ll just do it without changing the law” is that not “ignoring the law”?
