Moscow runs low on beer necessities for thirsty World Cup fans

Beer-guzzling soccer fans risk drinking bars and restaurants in the Russian capital dry, with some saying they are running low and having to wait longer than usual for fresh supplies.

Moscow has been transformed by the World Cup, with singing, chanting and beer swilling fans overwhelming some of the packed bars and restaurants around the Kremlin and Red Square.

"We just didn't think they would only want beer," said one waiter at a upscale eatery in central Moscow who asked not to be identified for fear of scaring off future customers.

The waiter said his restaurant ran out of draft lager on Monday and deliveries are taking longer than usual, at least 24 hours, because suppliers' stocks are also running low.

"There are really a lot of people in Moscow ... and they are all drinking," he said. "It's hot, and it's football."

Not Trump’s fault.
This is the result of a CIA operation implimented under Obama to convert Russians from ‘manly’ drinks like vodka and beer.
It was already in effect before Trump took office...

Guess they’ll have to sell the chardonnay at cut rate prices. Who’d of thought soccer fans are beer drinkers? I’m gaining respect for the game.

I wonder what price you can get for a 6 pack.

It might be worth driving to a neighboring town and filling the trunk, back and front seats. A hitch? Pet crate strapped to the roof?

I remember when it was darn near impossible to find beer in Russia.

Course, 30 years ago you could have said the same about here. :)

Looks skanky. Think about all the other arms and other things that have probably been wrapped around that.

She comes with a built in life vest so you don’t have to worry about losing her in a fishing accident.

Arabs never have enough money. I’m sure they will bring in boat loads of beer to sell to the fans at inflated prices.

I knew I was getting old when Mrs. Howell started looking good.

No! She's married!

Anyway, the younger guys are worried about skanky girls and catching something. Us older guys just worry about catching someone. (Disclaimer in these #metoo times, I'm just kidding around!)

When I was in Moscow in 1972, a brand of beer called Moskovskoye (Muscovite) was ubiquitous. It came in a 12-ounce bottle and was never served cold. It was also one of the worst-tasting beers I had ever drunk.

Some of the better watering holes would serve Stella beer, an Egyptian brand. Egypt, with no oil or raw materials, was apparently exporting beer to the Soviet Union to pay for the Soviet armaments that it was receiving--and that it would later use when it attacked Israel in 1973. Nonetheless, Stella tasted far better than Moskovskoye.

Ignore ETL. He has late-stage RDS (Russia Derangement Syndrome).

You might consider a visit though. Weather, food, and nature are great (as are the girls, if you are unattached), and I've been here over a year and Putin hasn't bothered me even once!

Here's your "manly" hero sounding and acting like Michael Jackson...

"In the footage, Putin, 53, is shown walking up to a small crowd of tourists in a Kremlin courtyard and crouching down in front of the boy, who appears to be five or six years old. As the Russian president talks with Nikita for several seconds, he tugs at the boy's shirt before finally lifting it up and kissing him on his bare stomach.

"He seemed to me very independent, very serious, but at the same time a boy is always vulnerable.

He was very sweet. I'll be honest: I felt an urge to squeeze him like a kitten, and that led to the gesture that I made. There was nothing behind it really," Putin said, smiling."

The problem with Russians is with the yuppies from Moscow and St Petersburg. Ran into them down in Turkey. Serious bad manners and awe inspiring drunks.
