FBI agent Peter Strzok offered to testify before the House Judiciary Committee in a letter from his attorney released on Sunday.
The letter was drafted by Strzok's attorney Aitan Goelman and was sent to House Judiciary Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.).
The letter comes amid reports that Goodlatte had begun initiating procedures to subpoena Strzok, who was removed from special counsel Robert Mueller's probe into Russian election meddling after it was revealed he sent anti-Trump text messages during the 2016 presidential campaign.
"While you are, of course, free to continue pursuing this process, it is wholly unnecessary," Goelman wrote in the letter.
"Special Agent Strzok, who has been fully cooperative with the DOJ Office of Inspector General, intends to voluntarily appear and testify before your committee and any other Congressional committee that invites him," he continued.
Goelman elaborated on Strzok's reasoning for testifying on Sunday in an interview with The Washington Post, saying the agent wants the chance to clear his name and tell his story.
He thinks that his position, character, and actions have all been misrepresented and caricatured, and he wants an opportunity to remedy that, Goelman said.

WASH POST: Peter Strzok willing to testify before Congress without immunity or evoking Fifth Amendment
2:44 PM · Jun 17, 2018
This guy does know about the word “perjury”?
It’s not really perjury if the response is, “I don’t recall.”
He couldn’t get immunity anyway. They’re only going to offer him or anyone else immunity after they hear everything he has to say and determine that it’s going to be worthwhile to let him skate. But in this case it looks like this guy was the linchpin in the head of this effort to take down Trump. He was after all the number three man in the FBI.
And as for him taking the Fifth Amendment or not, who could determine that until he hears the questions that are going to be asked him?
or “I can’t comment on that ....there’s an ongoing investigation”
See Brennan, for example.
Strzok will claim he lied in his texts just like Clinton’s Treasury Official Josh Steiner claimed he lied to his diary about Whitewater details.
I can’t recall; I don’t remember; that’s not the way we meant it; it’s a misunderstanding; I misspoke...etc.
why is the guy not fired already ,
unreal
He must have been given immunity.
“I was just venting. It didn’t affect my work. I’m a consummate professional.”
under oath, NO immunity...
Just what is this guy trying to get in front of?
Must not be good.
He’s protected by the Deep State. He can lie and say whatever he wants.
No repercussions.
Ok, I didn’t mean that but I’m trying to get in the spirit of the morose here.
Just not up to it.
If he testifies and I’m skeptical, it will come out that he’s bound by secrecy as a government witness on this question and that question and the other question.
Then he’ll make lots of noise about how only he Superman Strzok could save the nation from the perils of Trump and the Russia Collusion Hoax.
(Hint: Strzok won’t call it a hoax.)
