Ordinarily, it would be less than appropriate to speculate on the death of someone fighting cancer. In the case of Mr. McCain, it appears that the family has accepted that his death is imminent with all of the material that they have been releasing in recent months.

For McCain, the near future is death

The timing depends on the definition of near

All this adoration for a guy who did WHAT exactly? Honestly, the ONLY thing I can remember is The Keating Five.

The Keating Five were five United States Senators accused of corruption in 1989, igniting a major political scandal as part of the larger Savings and Loan crisis of the late 1980s and early 1990s. The five senators – Alan Cranston (Democrat of California), Dennis DeConcini (Democrat of Arizona), John Glenn (Democrat of Ohio), John McCain (Republican of Arizona), and Donald W. Riegle, Jr. (Democrat of Michigan) – were accused of improperly intervening in 1987 on behalf of Charles H. Keating, Jr., Chairman of the Lincoln Savings and Loan Association, which was the target of a regulatory investigation by the Federal Home Loan Bank Board (FHLBB). The FHLBB subsequently backed off taking action against Lincoln.

Oh, then there was the horrendous Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2007 which derived from McCain sponsored legislation...

The Secure America and Orderly Immigration Act (S. 1033), a bill proposed in May 2005 by Senators Ted Kennedy and John McCain, sometimes referred to as the "McCain-Kennedy or McKennedy Bill." The bill was portrayed as a compromise between providing a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants and increased border enforcement: it included funding for 300 miles (480 km) of vehicle barriers, 105 camera and radar towers, and 20,000 more Border Patrol agents, while simultaneously restructuring visa criteria around high-skilled workers. The bill also received heated criticism from both sides of the immigration debate. The bill was introduced in the United States Senate on May 9, 2007, but was never voted on, though a series of votes on amendments and cloture took place.

Is there ANYTHING good this man has accomplished? Why the hell is he being lionized? IIRC, I think he ran for POTUS and lost.

What a bunch of pablum -- we aren't allowed to do any planning for when he is gone UNTIL he is six feet under? Bunch of snowflakes.

If McCain had an ounce of class, he would have resigned months ago.

John McCain is a one-of-a-kind politician, and there's no replacing him

That's bull s**t. This comes from the era where just because a career politician is in office for decades, they're seen as some kind of icon or political standard. This is political jackassery.

If McCain’s cancer is terminal, it’s entirely appropriate to begin talking about his replacement.

‘John McCain is a one-of-a-kind politician, and there's no replacing him,' said Stan Barnes...

He is neither one of a kind or irreplaceable, Stan and neither are hired guns like you who make a living on your knees.

Nonsense! We Arizonans have every right to insist the traitor McCain stand down so a living breathing person can fill that seat who deserves it. That leaves out his wife Cindy. I don’t have anything against her personally other than she is a McCain. No more McCain’s or relatives of him should ever hold that office again unless duly elected. I hope that day never happens.

“’No one serving in political office today remembers a time when John McCain was not representing us in Washington.”

And that is the entire problem.

“’John McCain is a one-of-a-kind politician, and there’s no replacing him,’ said Stan Barnes, an Arizona Republican consultant. ‘No one serving in political office today remembers a time when John McCain was not representing us in Washington.’..........According to most of the comments I read, people in Arizona generally were not represented in Washington. I’d believe them before believing Barnes.

Which Arizonans, his family? What about all the Arizonans that have no voice in Congress because of McCain’s lack of consideration for them? It’s not like he has a positive future with terminal brain cancer.

No replacing him?

So we’ll have a Weekend at Johnny’s for a couple of decades?

I demand a recent “proof of life” picture!
