'There's no replacing him': Arizona Republicans say it's 'inappropriate' to talk about the future

Full title..............'There's no replacing him': Arizona Republicans say it's 'inappropriate' to talk about the future of John McCain's seat as he battles terminal brain cancer................Senator John McCain's legacy was thrust into focus nearly one year ago when he announced his brain cancer diagnosis. The six-term Senator and decorated Vietnam War veteran is now fighting the illness from his beloved Arizona, and filling the role of one of the few Congressional Republican voices to publicly rebuke Trump administration decisions.

Yet the question of what happens if McCain steps down from office before 2022 is a lingering one, casting an uncomfortable haze around the future of a seat that can't quite ever be filled.

'John McCain is a one-of-a-kind politician, and there's no replacing him,' said Stan Barnes, an Arizona Republican consultant. 'No one serving in political office today remembers a time when John McCain was not representing us in Washington.'

Some Arizona Republicans have criticized conversations about the future of McCain's seat as inappropriate. But reflections around the 81-year-old statesman's life, legacy and status as a national political figure have resurfaced via a new HBO documentary, 'John McCain: For Whom the Bell Tolls,' and his new memoir, 'The Restless Wave.'

Maybe he's like John Gill, in TOS' "Patterns of Force".

“to me this is sickening. the man is dying and his moron elite party is trying to keep him active for his RINO vote.”

McCain has been in Arizona since December 17, 2017. He has not fulfilled the responsibilities of his elective office for six months. He has a terminal illness and there has been no advisory from McCain’s office as to him ever being able to return to duty. If he were a true patriot he would resign his position, allowing the governor to appoint someone to represent the citizens of the state in Congress.

Occasional tweets demonstrating his disdain for the elected president do not constitute representation in the Senate.

I'm encouraged to know the GOPe can't find anyone as conniving, duplicitous, and treasonous as him.

Perhaps they can create one in the few remain days?

neither of them represent the voters in the state of Arizona....If I remember correctly Dems can vote in the state primaries. Ergo, no decent candidates were put up for elections in AZ.

Terminal cancer....I am beginning to doubt this more and more. Senile is more like it.

Yes, he is a one of a kind and not the type we voters like.

McCain should’ve resigned a long time ago. For a guy who claims to be interested in serving his country, it sure seems like he is holding on to an office for which he is UNFIT to serve now.

Vanity.

If that seems harsh, so be it. Men need to know when they’re not healthy enough to do the job they’ve been hired to do—or be smart enough to put good people around them to let them know.

The man IS dying, and ought to be considerate enough of his constituents to let them have a presence in the Senate that can do the job.

McCain is too ill to represent Arizonans in the Senate.

We have no representation!

It is his moral duty to resign.

Ordinarily, it would be less than appropriate to speculate on the death of someone fighting cancer. In the case of Mr. McCain, it appears that the family has accepted that his death is imminent with all of the material that they have been releasing in recent months.
