They try to make it sound so inane and accidental. These are not bumbling idiots just trying to do the right thing. It was obvious to anyone with a average exposure to information technology that the only real reason to host your own email server is to hide your affairs.
The only bumbling accidental part was the naivete to think that you can hide and protect your own servers from hackers and state actors alike. But it was more important to operate below board against government oversight that the risk of getting hacked was worth it.

I think the Dems have come to the conclusion that they are never going to impeach Trump, so the whole Mueller investigation right now is about negotiating a mutual stand-down.
