In much of the country, the stereotype that boys do better than girls at math isn’t true – on average, they perform about the same, at least through eighth grade. But there’s a notable exception.
In school districts that are mostly rich, white and suburban, boys are much more likely to outperform girls in math, according to a new study from Stanford researchers, one of the most comprehensive looks at the gender gap in test scores at the school district level.
The research, based on 260 million standardized test scores for third through eighth graders in nearly every district in the country, suggests that local norms influence how children perform in school from early ages – and that boys are much more influenced than girls.
“It could be about some set of expectations, it could be messages kids get early on or it could be how they’re treated in school,” said Sean Reardon, professor of poverty and inequality in education at Stanford, who conducted the study with Erin Fahle, a doctoral candidate in education policy there, and colleagues. “Something operates to help boys more than girls in some places and help girls more than boys in other places.”
The study included test scores from the 2008 to 2014 school years for 10,000 of the roughly 12,000 school districts in the United States. In no district do boys, on average, do as well or better than girls in English and language arts. In the average district, girls perform about three-quarters of a grade level ahead of boys.
But in math, there is nearly no gender gap, on average. Girls perform slightly better than boys in about a quarter of districts – particularly those that are predominantly African-American and low-income. Boys do slightly better in the rest

IQ is inherited. Higher IQs generally mean higher income. So more affluent areas are populate by higher IQ residents.

People in rich, white, suburban districts are smarter than those who are not, and so are their kids.
Compare the Bell Curve intelligence of boys and girls, in the stratosphere of genius, there are many more White Boys. Just the truth.
I grew up in a wealthy suburb of ny so did my parents. I raised my kids in a wealthy suburb, taught school in a wealthy suburb. Girls do very ell in math in these places. In high school, girls outperform boys in math when girls are better at math. No one tries to stop tgem.
Ive run into a lot of women who would pretend theyrre feminist by taking on establishment feminist values who do not encourage their daughters to pursue their talents.
Ive seen women teachers berate particular girls while exalting the boys in a particular pre calculus class, while the nicest, smartest boy encouraged the berated girl. Even in his valedictorian speech, being so outraged by tge teacher’s prejudiced arbitrary bias

Every morning here in Nashua, NH I pass by the entrance to a private STEM high school. Parents line up with their children to drop them off. No buses. It is the #1 ranked high school in the state. The people sending their children to this school are a high percentage of Asian Americans and white.
Check out the pictures. These are the children that will be running our country in future :).
Surprise, surprise. The “gender stereotype” is basically true after all.
And educators want to engineer societal/genetic change through their effort (but mostly about MORE gubmint funding).

I caught that too. A university that takes the cream of the crop and charges them $60,000+ for tuition.
The goal of the NYT - and the rest of the MSM - is, among other agenda items, to upset the results based performance standards imposed by a competitive capitalistic system.
That means, each and every day, they set out to do their "job": report on any of the myriad of losers - groups, areas, people, etc - who have failed due to the "system".
It's astoundingly easy, almost like mindlessly assembling parts in a factory. Pick a subject, any subject, and flip it around so that the results do not indicate success, but rather failure.
So, in this case, where the US continues to draw the best STEM professionals, and is leagues ahead of the rest of the globe in high tech, simply flip the scrip and find the missing players. Then, develop a detailed theory based on discrimination, education standards, institutional racism, you know, hit all the buttons.
Package it up, send it to the printers, transmit memos, and it's the theme for the day. And like clockwork, someone @ FR will post it, and the thread will generate all these earnest and sincere replies, never imagining they are arguing with a ghost.
If the NYT writers watched this thread, they'd be laughing at the "look, squirrel" reaction they get every time.

It's only a crisis if boys do better than girls in some way. When boys outperform girls then the curriculum must be modified to tamp down the boys ability to achieve. When girls outpeform boys in school, woo hoo, you go girls!
Rich white suburbs = higher IQs. Men have a higher std deviation around IQs then women. It’s not surprising higher IQ men will outperform.
Maybe it’s the fact that Blacks and Latin Americans on average have an IQ in the 80’s....
Oh wait, we can never point that out.
Rich men tend to go for pretty women. Pretty women tend to be airheads. Airheadery apparently passes down on the female side.
