Trump says Kim is 'very smart', that North Korea to denuclearize 'very, very quickly'

U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un signed a "comprehensive" document on Tuesday following a historic summit in Singapore aimed at the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula.

There were no immediate details on the contents of the document but Trump said he expected the denuclearization process to start "very, very quickly".

Although the breakthrough made at the summit marks just the start of a diplomatic process, it could bring lasting change to the security landscape of Northeast Asia, just as former U.S. President Richard Nixon visit to Beijing in 1972 led to the transformation of China.

Before signing what Trump described as a "comprehensive letter", Kim said the two leaders had a historic meeting “and decided to leave the past behind. The world will see a major change.”

Trump said he had formed a "very special bond" with Kim and that relationship with North Korea would be very different.

"People are going to be very impressed and people are going to be very happy and we are going to take care of a very dangerous problem for the world," Trump said....

I’m not a huge fan of the Nobel Peace Prize (nor of many of its recipients over the last few decades). But, man, if Trump were to receive the Nobel for this N. Korean deal, it’d be one of the greatest things to happen this century— not because the award itself means much but rather because liberal/left heads would explode on a scale that we haven’t seen since the day after the 2016 election. I’m guessing that some on the left would be so overwhelmed by anger and rage and incomprehensibility that they would reduced to a near catatonic state.

They’d give it to Kim and not Trump just to spite him. I won’t hold my breath.

Verily.

How'd that work out for us?!

Maybe in 20 years North Korea will be making and sending millions of goods to the USA, all the while modernizing their military on our cash while we flounder. Nah, couldn't happen, could it? Well at least they won't be shooting at us... yet. We just have to have the bigger stick to keep them in line.

Only Nixon could go to China.

There’s a new Vulcan proverb: Only Trump could go to North Korea.

Maybe the Norks learned from the Chinese experience. Build the big nuke bombs to get the notice of the Americans, who will knock on your door and help modernize your country. Who's next, Cuba?

I believe Trump may well have fixed Korea but we don’t know yet so I am not cheering until we see how this works out. I know that if anyone at all could do it it has to be Donald Trump.

The Cold War was going on when Nixon went to China. He wasn’t stupid. He wanted a friend for America to counterbalance the USSR in the Cold War.

Now that there isn’t much, if any, of a cold war, and China is torn between capitalism and communism, it’s probably a good thing that China be urged to stand on its own. Without the huge trade advantage to the USA, China will find it can’t afford the communism.

By paying Kim some respect for doing the right thing, Trump gets North Korea out of the devilish corner that China helped paint North Korea into.

Donald is the only guy audacious enough to propose “Forgive North Korea.” After making it crystal clear that they were headed to hell. Either Rocket Man gets off of that rocket, or roast Norkieland.

I would imagine that part of the deal is opening up religious freedom in North Korea too.

And here’s where all the folks who have been screaming about how “un-Christian” Donald Trump is (despite having quietly dropped his life of vice) will be forced to eat their words. Christianity urges forgiveness — but excuses will not fly.
