JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A robbery at River City Marketplace forced shoppers to defend themselves Friday afternoon, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
Jacksonville police said a 36-year-old man put multiple people at risk after he stole a cash register drawer from the Walmart at the shopping center.
Police said Christopher Hill ran out to the parking lot after grabbing a Walmart cash register and approached a couple sitting in their pickup truck in front of Supercuts hair salon.
Police said Hill pulled a knife on the man sitting in the truck, cutting him on the hands and legs. The injured man pulled out his gun and pointed it at the suspect, forcing him to run toward a nearby Starbucks, according to JSO.
Next, police said, Hill approached a woman in her car at the Starbucks drive-thru, got into the passenger seat and said that someone was chasing him.
The woman got out of her car, reached into the trunk for a gun and pointed it at Hill until he ran off, police said.
Hill eventually ran into the Supercuts and locked himself in a bathroom, according to police. When officers arrived, Hill came out of the bathroom with the knife in his pocket, police said.
Hill is being held on $91,000 bond on charges of strong arm robbery, aggravated battery and attempted carjacking.

There is a lesson here, FReeper FRiends:
NEVER, EVER! LEAVE HOME UNARMED!
I lived in the Nothern VA area when the DC shooters were on the loose; a “long gun” in the trunk was a good idea, then, along with CC, of course!
It is still a good idea, IMHO!
Better to not need it and have it than to need it and NOT have it!
How stupid or despite do you have to be to attempt a robbery like this one?
My guess is that he made off with less than $200. Stores do not keep large amounts of cash in the cashiers drawers for just this reason.
Fools like Chris here are risking 10 years or more in prison for $200.
And the risk of incarceration are very high. Stores like Walmart have cameras everywhere making the likelihood of a positive identification of Chris very high.
I am guessing that Chris is not very bright. If he were better at planning these things he would have gotten an Uber.
😉
Justified= opportunity+ability+intent. This idiot is lucky to get to jail. Ample occasion to permently end his career was offered to the armed folks. Glad they are safe. Patience is a dangerous virtue.
His booking picture is posted at the top of the linked story.
Thanks, I guess I would have lost the bet. It was Jacksonville after all...
A clerk yelled at him and he put on an amazing burst of speed toward the door which he bounced off of (Those doors look open from thirty feet away- no door handles). Two bag boys and two customers tackled him as he tried to get up, One of the customers looked like he worked out a lot. The thief trhrew them all off and leaped up toward the door again and bounced off again. Repeat twice more.
Finally a very very large fellow came out from the back and when the thief was flat again Big Guy sat on him and it was still a struggle to keep him in check. A police car rode up right then and Big Guy had to hold him down until he was cuffed. I don't know what the fellow was on but it certainly gave him some strength, or amazing leverage or something.
Wait, where was Hogg?
I have never been prouder of living in the greater Jacksonville area than I am right now. ;-)
LOL! My hometown. North Florida is the South - it aint Miami. Guess what scumbag. Were armed.
These STOOPUD laws are making HARDER AND HARDER for a criminal to make a living!
Next time, don’t reach for a gun to protect yourself, call David Hogg!
Wait a minute here, this is Hoggs Florida: give this kid a ride back to the high school and put him in class again. No charges to file, end of story.
Some one mentions a bulldog 44. I think of a Florida grandma explaining ccw to some idiot. Dont know why but it always makes me smile. Go Jacksonville.
Moral of the story and alternate headline:
Woman Nearly Killed Due to Lack of Access to Firearm.
Part of the enthusiasm no doubt stemmed from the fact in those days, there was no deposit insurance. The bank robbers literally stole their money, and probably every depositor had to take a hit on their balance when a robbery occured.
Sounds like meth or PCP.
You’re being sarcastic, but there are numerous interviews and news reports from “family” members who are of that exact sentiment. Their opinion is that an armed robbery is nobody else’s business, except between the clerk and their child.
"A armed society is a Polite Society..."
Unless dealing with animals...
