If anyone still thinks that the police are somehow on the side of the constitution and individual liberty, reading this should quickly disabuse them of that foolish notion. It reads like the anti-gun wish list of the progressive wing of the Democrat party

One item - not highlighted in red - is the key to the entire story: "The Police Executive Research Forum (PERF), a Washington-based think tank, on Friday released..."

Looking up PERF, we find it was founded by Patrick V Murphy, who was NYC Police Commissioner under the infamous mega-liberal mayor John Lindsey. Murphy under Lindsey coddled the lawless while disarming the law-abiding and handcuffing the police. Their liberal philosophy of public safety opened the doors in the early 1970s for the decades long massive crime wave that swept US cities.

Fans of old crime/police movies should know that Murphy was one who abolished the traditional police shooting "fleeing felon rule." (Years later a liberal SCOTUS made that national law to the joy of criminals and lawyers nationwide.)

The focus is, once again, on the wrong thing. The police have already bought into the communist agenda by using their language--gun violence--which on its face is a manufactured term that is designed to do one thing--disarm the public.

Disarming the public is usually the first step in establishing a dictatorship.

Guns are a tool, a tool that was necessary in the minds of our Founding Fathers to retain the Republic that God gave us through their hands, their blood and their fortunes.

No one wants to identify the real problem: a disavowal of God, His claim on our lives and our country and the blessings America have enjoyed as a result of His beneficence.

National repentance and revival are required, which will lead to a radical transformation of our schools, intolerance for evil (pornography, so-called same sex marriage, etc.).

Without this, you can kiss America goodbye.

No new laws are necessary. All that is required is to enforce the existing laws.

Nothing new here except the packaging. It’s still the same old box of gun-control bull splat.

Item 1 is the true aim, a gun registry-who has them, what type, etc.
Bill Nelson of Florida is having a rare moment of honesty with his recent legislative proposal to do just that.
Make no mistake-the end game is confiscation, and any that tell you otherwise is lying.
Given the recent exposures of corruption in law enforcement and the DOJ, there are players at the top that are concerned with gun safety....but it is to protect themselves from the people they're abusing, not as they say, "for the children".

And hidden in the "gun storage" provision is a wide open door to violations of the 4th amendment. You're only one itinerant politico away from having surprise spot inspections to make sure your "guns are stored safely".

Let's stop beating around the bush. What these people are trying to do is codify tyranny that they've only been able to get away with at the fringes, or if they have some sort of legal fig leaf to hide behind to placate those segments of the population who aren't paying attention.

What is remarkable is that groups that put out reports like this never seem to:
1. Have identified who is supplying the funding
2. What political ties the interested parties may have
3. The histories of the parties involved

Did I miss the call for vigorous prosecution of criminals? Once again the government has come up with ideas to affect the common man, not necessarily criminals, and ensure that citizens are outgunned by the police/government.

In my opinion, Obama and his cohorts initiated a silent coup that would end in a loss of all personal freedoms. Look at Venezuela and ask, could this happen in the United States with a well armed citizenry?

According to PERF’s website, general membership in the group is exclusive to “the executive head of a municipal, county or state-funded agency that provides general police services. The agency must have at least 100 full-time employees, or serve a population of 50,000 or more people.”

Essentially urban police chiefs. Very political. Not accountable to the people.

A few cases of ineffective over-reach:

- Requiring background checks for all private sales and transfers.

No indication this would have stopped any of the mass shootings. The straw purchases in the Columbine shootings were already prohibited by law and did not stop the transfer.

- Safe storage laws make the weapons useless for self-defense.

- Red Flag orders would quickly be abused as the new "SWATing" technique.

- Magazine limits are unenforcible nonsense due to current widespread availability and the speed at which magazines can be changed.

Did I mention that the phrase "high-powered firearms" is completely misused? The assault weapons ban is completely bogus and not implementable.

- The "black market" meme is code for licensing of all guns.

While the recommendations will appear to the sheeple to be directed at “gun violence” they are all directed at one type of gun violence (mostly one-on-one acts) and not the type that gets the public so interested in “gun control” - “mass shootings”. And the “recommendations” have nothing to offer about identifying the mentally unbalanced possible mass shooter and keeping guns out of their hands. In almost every “mass shooting” case, none of the recommendations would have prevented them; their weapons were legally obtained and legal for them to obtain.

It took them until #6 to slip in a blatant gun-grab.

To hell with them; they're enemies of the Constitution.

“6. Reducing the carnage: Limit the availability of high-powered firearms.”

Like 375 HH magnum, 458 winchester etc? Surely you don’t mean varmint rounds like 223?

Police chiefs are the sock puppets of their political masters. Always have been.

The one thing which will reduce homicides, is more incarceration of chronic criminals. Most homicides are done by people with prior criminal records.

We could do much more to reduce crime, by eliminating all welfare programs which provide incentives for women to have kids without responsible fathers.

These police and their hacks simply want to be in control with power over everyone else. They forget they serve the people, are our employees, not our rulers. They seem to think they are above the law, want laws to give them more powers over the people irregardless of what the constitution says.

Most gun violence is from a few select counties and cities. Fix them.

Recognize that civilian, CCW gun owners have lower rate of crime than the police. Process that.

Accept that an armed citizen can protect themselves, not wait 8-10 minutes for police to show up and monitor (being nice this morning).

They must have forgotten, arm the police with machine guns, grenade launchers, military armored vehicles, military drones, CIA electronic surveillance equipment. Military clothing and training. And last but not least make sure there is no accountability in the case of abuse of power. Oh I forgot we've already done all this so scratch it all off the list.

The police need to be disarmed of all military weapons, equipment and tactics. The police should wear blue and only blue. The police should be addressed only as "Peace officer" and act accordingly. No knock warrants should be jail sentences for any judge that issues one. The police should be accountable for any and all abuse of power. Yes I think the citizens need to have their own list on how to make the police safer.

I submit the school and other would-be mass killings are by psychotics. They are, on should be on psychiatric drugs. They represent the failure of the psychiatric doctor community to diagnose correctly and a failure of our communities to provide psycho institutions to get them off the streets.

You assume a “Washington based think tank” speaks for all police? How naïve are you? Probably run by a bunch of liberal former big city police chiefs and funded by Soros.
