If anyone still thinks that the police are somehow on the side of the constitution and individual liberty, reading this should quickly disabuse them of that foolish notion. It reads like the anti-gun wish list of the progressive wing of the Democrat party

“the progressive wing of the Democrat party”

That’s what any “think tank: is. Group think is a progressive invention whether it’s gun control or any other subject. Progressives do all the thinking and get unhinged when individuals attempt it.

But gun control does work, see my tagline.

As for what I can do for myself, I like this list better:

- Don’t commit suicide.
- Adopt a policy of not escalating any road rage situations.
- Do not join a gang.
- Do not buy or sell illegal drugs.
- Do not get involved with abusive people.
- Implement a personal curfew.
- Stay away from Gun-Free Zones.
- Do not associate with convicted criminals.
- Be aware of your surroundings.
- Avoid people who handle guns in an irresponsible manner.
- Do not be a predator.

Has any ballistics data solved any crime? Last I heard the real evidence was it was a waste of resources. Has anybody even seen the ballistics from Twin Peaks? Seems like one case where it might be useful but they don’t want us to know...

Gun quiz:

I have 20 guns in my safe.

10 of them are semi automatic firearms that accept standard magazines (aka assault weapons to gun grabbers).

The Congress passes a law to ban ownership, possession, transfer, manufacture of all of them. They order citizens to turn them in to the cops or face long jail time after police raid and confiscation.

Question: How many guns will I have left in my safe?

Answer: Not 10.

Its 157.

I lied about only having 20 guns and I won't turn any in.

This isn’t the “police,” this is a far-left think tank that parrots Democrat talking points. “The Police Executive Research Forum (PERF) is a national membership organization of police executives primarily from the largest city, county and state law enforcement agencies in the United States.” Contrary to your whining, surveys of line officers consistently show massive levels of support for the Second Amendment and opposition to gun control.

"To combat school shootings, school resource officers, teachers and other school personnel should be trained to look for tell-tale signs of crisis or violence, and protocols should be established for reporting and following up on those threats."

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ So how did that work for Parkland? The shooter came to the attention of law enforcement an obscene number of times and they did nothing. This is just WORDS, not ACTION. Schools need to be hardened targets. People WILL get guns and if they can't get guns, they'll use whatever they can get their hands on, even if every one of these 9 items on the wish list were enacted.

This Secret Service guy is on the right track with his recommendations .... so is the NRA that has a specific program (no one talks about it - gee, why not? because it's the NRA???) to assess schools and help them with security and becoming a hardened target. This is immediate ACTION to make students/teachers feel safer and proactive steps to physically keep these people from getting in and doing damage plus give them real strategies for how to deal with the situation should the worst occur.

Retired Secret Service agent had warned Stoneman Douglas about security failures

Requiring background checks for all private sales and transfers.

If this is as simple as requiring that the buyer show a carry permit at time of purchase, fine.

But if this involves involving an FFL with every transfer, or doing anything else that creates a paper trail, no.

First, if we involve an FFL in a transfer, we're not requiring background checks on private sales, we're outlawing private sales.

Second, making the existence of a proper record necessary for a legal transfer reverses the presumption of innocence, with respect to firearms. It makes the simple ownership of a new firearm a crime, subject to an affirmative defense in having the proper paper trail.

And we all know how inept BATF has proven itself in maintaining databases, over the years. The assumption that they will not lose, misplace, or simply misfile transfer records is false. Error rates in the NFA database run form 30-50%.

And if you combine that error rate with their proposal for significant penalties for illegal possession, and you expose every gun owner to significant risk.

Which is, of course, what the proponents of these proposals want.

#9 is so far off track. it’s all stated from fear.

More like they should spend all that time and effort teaching kids proper habits around guns, parents teaching those kids/teens they deem ready proper handling and usage of guns. Hold schools etc accountable for their many times lacadazical approaches to kids who are becoming a concern. instead of keeping quiet and hoping nothing goes wrong on their watch.

guns are not a problem it’s some people and their actions that are the problem.

There’s only one thing required:

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

Australia has everything the Left wants in gun control as does Europe. Both areas have been subjected to mass shootings in the past two months.

Assume all of these were to be passed....bad guys will do what terrorists are doing in Europe: turn to other weapons.

Knives, trucks, acid, etc.

"Connecting guns helps to solve crimes and prevent future offenses."

What a crock.... It takes a perp and his lawyer no time flat to have them right back out in the street... That's how you get a-holes with rap sheets as long as your leg...

The REAL money in crime is made at the courthouse.. :(
