An internal memo from the chief scientist of the U.S. Census Bureau warned Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross against adding a question on citizenship to the 2020 census.
John Abowd, the agencys chief scientist and associate director for research and methodology, wrote in the January memo that adding a citizenship question would be "very costly, harms the quality of the census count, and would use substantially less accurate citizenship status data than are available from administrative sources."
The document also states that adding the questions would create "major potential quality and cost disruptions" for the 2020 census.
The memo does say that the cost of adding the question would be minimal and would create a "direct measure of self-reported citizenship for the whole population."
However, Abowds overall argument is against adding the question, stating that "citizenship status is misreported at a very high rate for non-citizens."
CNN reported that Democrats on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee released the internal memo on Saturday.

>>Restoring the question.<<
Yes — I believe it was there 2 censuses (censi?) ago.
He could have been hired by any of the past 4 Presidents and sound the same.
>>Reassign this scientist to do research somewhere distant. Like send him to Afghanistan to help their census bureau organize a carry out a census.

Right place, wrong stats. He should survey personally the effectiveness of EIDs.
Bush League Republicans say the same things.
If we just count CITIZENS in california alone I wonder how many repetition electoral votes they would lose
And Heaven forbid, you should want to vote. You dont even need to provide an 18th birthday card.
The Open Border Leftists do not want the public to know there may be 50 million or more non-citizens living in the USA.
Furthermore, they are concerned that the voting data will show that more people are voting than are citizens in a huge number of counties.
Drain the swamp.
That’s why we need the question. Put it in and keep it in. If criminals are afraid to answer, that’s okay. They are heading back to their real homes if the rule of law is restored, so there is no point in counting them.
Non-citizens will lie about their status. That is the point of putting it back on the census. If they lie, they add one more federal charge in addition to being here illegally.
What’s the difference?
On Motor Voter Forms the Illegal Invaders check the Citizen Box and not one person has ever been charged with Perjury because of it because NOBODY checks to see if they are Citizens.
Fake Birth Certificate, fake Social Security Number = Fake Democrat Voter and Jury Member. Think about that if you ever go to Trial. Jury of your Peers, LOL.
Motor Voter, the biggest Voter Fraud scam ever devised.
Fire the political “scientist”.
What insubordination!
A Census “scientist”?
Maybe his Global Warming Climate Change grant ran out so he found a different gig. /s
I guess the Census People dont give a damned about how many people in this country are actually citizens.
They value the non-citizen more.
So if you ask them they will lie and say they are citizens. If you do not ask them, you just count them as citizens. So if only a few admit they are non-citizens you come out on top.
Perhaps the census "scientists" should do a little scientific research on Tinder. They'll find that another one of their questions, namely "Relationship Status", is even more widely misreported.
Census records should immediately be turned over to ICE. Not that ICE would bother acting on the info.
Yet they came up with the money for ink to ask us if are we Hispanic or not at doctor offices, etc...they don’t have a problem telling us to press 1 for English...and so on..
Why does John Abowd still have a government job?
Serious question...
That is the whole point, genius!
Lie? Immediate deportation...
Tell the truth? Immediate deportation.
Win-win...
