Count out Devante Smith-Pelly if the Washington Capitals win the Stanley Cup and are invited to the White House to celebrate with President Donald Trump.
"The things that he spews are straight-up racist and sexist," Canada's Postmedia quoted Smith-Pelly as saying Wednesday as the Capitals prepared for Game 5 against the Vegas Golden Knights. "Some of the things he's said are pretty gross. I'm not too into politics, so I don't know all his other views, but his rhetoric I definitely don't agree with. It hasn't come up here, but I think I already have my mind made up."
Smith-Pelly, one of two black Capitals players, is from the Toronto area. He spoke two days after Trump canceled the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles' visit to the White House, and a day after NBA stars LeBron James and Curry both said they wouldn't visit.
The Capitals lead the best-of-seven series 3-1, and can hoist the Cup on Thursday night.

Donald Trump has years and years of professional business experience and expertise. He has years and years of experience and expertise in broadcast television and other media and marketing.
Before now, no one ever suggested Donald Trump is racist or sexist. He treated everyone fairly on his shows. He practically trademarked his signature “you’re fired” routine which always revolved around whether a person did what it took to be the best. It never related to a person’s race or sex.
Now, because President Trump is taking a stand for what’s right, the left throws out all sorts of nasty labels that are entirely false and completely unsubstantiated.
And the outcome is they make fools of themselves because any objective human being can see for themselves that these accusations are unfounded and false. Just like the wasteful, distracting, counterproductive, totally-concocted Russia narrative.
If this non-stop virtue-signaling and counter-virtue-signaling and accusations and counter-accusations can come to a final blow-up so horrific that neither side wants anything to do with it, the sooner the better. There’s no need the President to act as Master Of Ceremonies In Chief for these genetic celebrities, so let’s all get to Pox On Both Your Houses status ASAP and be done with it once and for all.
