It was obviously some combination of a sharp rejoinder and a joke. But the bigger point is the question of who is releasing this? Is it US Deep Staters who continue to leak all of the President’s calls with foreign leaders? Or is it Boy Trudeau the Groper trying to look tough vs. the USA? The USA and Canada will get along fine in the long run due to our mutual interest and longtime very close connections. But if Boy Trudeau thinks he can push the Americans around, he is back to smoking the funny stuff.

If the media doesn’t catch on, the people Trump hired and is running interference for will be able to fix so much of the executive branch and the media won’t have a clue how such an “incompetent buffoon as Trump” got so many good things done. (”good” to me, “bad” to them)
This smells like fake news. For some reason, I don’t think Trump - or most people - would remember anything about the War of 1812. It’s something you hear about in the sixth grade, and then forget.
The US had war plans drawn up for an invasion of Canada in the early 1930’s.

And since then have fought beside us in two world wars, the Korean War, the Cold War, twice in Iraq and once in Afghanistan. If Trudeau's intent was to show that Canada is hardly a security risk then I think they've done that.

Does not matter if the invaders were from the British empire or mercenaries. The troops left what is now called nova scotia, landed on us soil, and burnt down the capitol.
Therefore, Canada was a bona fide threat, and could be a future threat.

Trudeau is conflating the idea that the tariffs are being applied to Nations that threaten our security, with the true state of affairs where tarrifs are being applied to Nations that threaten the sustainable development of our internal aluminum & steel industries by undercutting our manufacturers or flooding our markets.
Trump is completely correct from a long term historical perspective. There is no guarantee that Canada will remain a faithful ally of the United States and provide us with steel in times of war. Look at the government Mexico is about to elect. Canada is most likely to oppose any war we are involved in.
