New Yorker Publishes Hilarious Review of Clinton, Patterson Novel

If you have been paying attention to the book tour by former president Bill Clinton and author James Patterson plugging their novel, you are probably most likely to remember the contentious Today show interview conducted by NBC's Craig Melvin in which Clinton was pressed on the matter of sexual harassment.  However, almost lost in this controversy is their novel which they supposedly wrote together, The President Is Missing.

Fortunately a devastatingly funny review of the book was written by Anthony Lane of The New Yorker, “Bill Clinton and James Patterson’s Concussive Collaboration.” No matter what you think of the novel itself, you are sure to be entertained by the review whose subtitle reveals what else is also missing: The President Is Missing contains most of what you’d expect from this duo: politico-historical ramblings, mixed metaphors, saving the world. But why is there no sex”:

It sounds more like Patterson really runs a writing factory rather than actually being a writer.

...and Clinton wrote the title, put his pen down, grabbed his whiskey and then grabbed an intern. That was the end of his “writing.”

I would wager that (impeached and disbarred) Bill Clinton has not even read it.

Clinton used his pen is correct even though it is crooked.

The Bill Clinton character in the book is portrayed as bravely having a shootout with terrorists who wish to harm America. Sorry Bill. Your pathological narcissism is showing. You cannot change the past with fantasy and delusion. You had your chance in 1966 to prove your manly mettle but while others served you avoided going into harms way. Now you can never know what every man at some point has to learn about himself.

Trump has a concealed carry permit for New York.

I could imagine him doing this.

If you can read a sentence like “The wind off the river lifts his hair,” for instance, without thinking of the current American President, you’re doing better than me.

Now that's funny, LOL!

He missed his chance to fight terrorists when he was in the WH too. No excuse for that.

Well, yeah.

I believe he once wrote his own stuff. I read a couple of his collaborations; one of them was fair. It's interesting how he makes every scene a chapter.

There is no arguing with his success; he gives his readers what they want.

As an aside, I seem to remember a story called, ‘The President’s Plane Is Missing’ co-written by another president, FDR.
