New law limits toilet flushes, showers in California

(Meredith/CBS13) – A new law passed in California will soon limit the number of gallons of water a person is allowed to use per day.

By 2022, residents in California will be limited to 55 gallons per person, per day. In 2013, the number of gallons used is expected to fall to 50.

According to CBS13, California is the first state across the country to institute tough, water-efficiency standards like this.

“With a child and every day having to wash clothes, that’s not feasible. That’s my opinion,” Tanya Allen, the mother of a -four-year-old, told CBS13. “But I get it and I understand that we’re trying to preserve. But 55 gallons a day?”

How many gallons?!

With the newly passed law, many people are asking if 55 gallons a day is enough. CBS13 broke down just how much water an average home uses:

An eight-minute shower uses about 17 gallons of water. One load of laundry uses about 40. Taking a bath can use anywhere between 80 and 100 gallons of water.

“I think the average new home is 35 gallons per person, per day, so we are not talking emergency conservation here,” Chair of the State Water Resources Control Board Felicia Marcus told CBS13.

Ways to cut back

One solution to the water problem is retrofitting homes with more efficient water fixtures, which would help in cutting back water usage. Another solution is for officials to fix leaks and educate residents.

“We lose up to 30 percent of urban water just to leaks in the system,” Greg Bundesen, who works with the Sacramento Suburban Water District, said. “Some people may not be aware that you’re going to use a lot more water in a bath. It’s our job to make sure they’re informed.”

The new law also requires water districts to perform tests on their water supply and systems to make sure they aren’t too stressed.

Great, another two million people moving to Texas!

I know, we need a wall not only to our Southern border, but the North, South, East and West borders as well.

Maybe instead of building the high-speed train they should have spent the money on desalination plants.

California is the capital of RAT VOTER FRAUD. No one I’ve talked to voted for the insane douche bag Brown. Brown’s devoted felons, illegals, and totally insane Coastal Liberals are the only ones voting for human waste like Brown, Pelosi, Becera, Newsom, Waters, et al.

Yes, and combine this approach with Sheryl Crow’s call for limiting toilet paper to one sheet per visit.

So, to be accurate, all CA needs to mandate is 55 gal per taxed person, then cut the water off.

But, if course their illegals are neither taxed nor legal .... But they vote! So only taxed rich whites get cut off.

Instead of supporting Mexico, build a desalination plant or two..or four!

Controlling people's lives is much more to their liking and nature. Fixing problems at the source, not so much.

California, save water — DEFECATE & URINATE OUTSIDE. If you live near a stream, hand wash your clothes in the stream.

I’ve driven down I-5 and they have palm trees all along California which require lots of water per day. Maybe the government should start conserving water first.

Having been raised in-and living in a rural area, I have zero sympathy for Cali whiners who create shortages with their profligate wasting of water-using it to make some fish happy instead of letting farmers use it to grow food so everybody can eat, wasting it in pools, water parks, etc-I was taught to conserve and use resources wisely, and never waste-especially water. In a remote area with small water systems that are just communal wells, individual wells and rain capture being the only sources of water-rain capture is your best back-up in case of pump failure-you can’t just call the water company. I can’t imagine using 55 gallons of water per day, even on a wash day-and why would anyone stay in the shower that long-nothing better to do? Nobody I know uses half that much water, and I’ve never seen an unwashed person in dirty clothes out here...

And maybe they should take the water from Nancy’s swimming pools and fountains on her estate(s) and use it to wash the disease carrying filth off those nasty-looking sidewalks in SanFran...

"Statewide, average water use is roughly 50% environmental, 40% agricultural, and 10% urban"

Plants before people!

Dude, you really expect a click-bait article to lead off with a false statement and then say they lied?

Sometimes it pays to do your homework.
