An FBI agent got himself into an embarrassing situation on Saturday when his service weapon fell out of its holster while dancing at a Denver club and he accidentally shot a fellow patron while retrieving it.

Denver police responded to Mile High Spirits Distillery and Tasting Bar for an accidental shooting at about 12:45 a.m. on Saturday. According to police, an off-duty FBI agent was dancing at the club when his firearm fell to the ground. He picked the gun up and it went off, shooting another person in the leg.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital in "good" condition, according to police.

Good way to get yourself dead.

That being said - I go back to wondering how much he had to drink. He certainly acted irresponsibly. But the gun falling out of his pants is bad enough... it discharged via his picking it up (MIS-handling).

It takes a decent pull to fire a pistol, unless you are stupid enough to carry it cocked.

Not if it's a Glock.

It is 2018? How is it any gun sold today can go off when dropped. I thought they all had multiple safeties like hammer safeties and firing pin safeties when dropped. Stiker fired weapons don’t even have hammers and I thought they all had firing pin safeties nowadays.

What am I missing? Was he using an old Colt Python or something? I thought FBI all had modern Sigs and Glocks and Berettas.

“How about “Not keeping a round chambered unless in imminent danger”?

Rule # 1 for Glocks.

“It takes a decent pull to fire a pistol, unless you are stupid enough to carry it cocked.”

Clocks are always cocked.

OK, I understand. It was a negligent discharge when he grabbed the gun by the trigger picking it back up. Man that is stupid! Well, now we know FBI keep one in the chamber at all times.

Clocks don’t have safeties.

One of the reasons I refuse to carry a
Glock. Yeah I know keep the booger hook off the trigger. However those trigger safeties are easily depressed accidently.

Not the first time...

I wonder if Mr. FBEye was immediately subjected to a blood alcohol test?

Pay attention. The gun didn’t go off when he dropped it. In other words, NOT cocked. NOT a revolver.

(Who carries around a “cocked” handgun?

It went off when he picked it up.

Meaning, he put his finger INSIDE the trigger guard.

He was in a bar. I wonder if he was drinking?

18-12-106. Prohibited use of weapons
(1) A person commits a class 2 misdemeanor if:
(d) The person has in his or her possession a firearm while the person is under the influence of intoxicating liquor or of a controlled substance, as defined in section 18-18-102 (5).

“The problem here was holster retention”

The holster didn’t fire the gun.

“Not keeping a round chambered? That’s an unloaded gun.”

It didn’t go off till he pulled the trigger.

Too slow. Condition 2 is the best carry method, you just have to not be stupid and make sure your “finger” safety is on at all times. When you need to shoot, you need to shoot, not rack the slide or otherwise fiddle with the firearm. Condition 2 with hammer down on a live round in the chamber is a perfectly adequate carry method.

The jackwipe should not have touched the trigger. The jackwipe should not have brought his weapon into a bar, especially if he is going to drink. The way he was acting, it looks like he had had plenty to dring.
