If President Trump gets a treaty with North Korea ending the war and the Democrats vote it down, how does that help the Democrats?

I don’t know about McCarthy. He sounds like he’s peeved that Trump nixed the Iran fiasco. I think it has been Trump’s intention to make it a treaty if it’s a worthwhile deal, and if the R smooshes and the D spoilers don’t tie it up and never pass it. Are you listening, McConnell? But it should go through the senate, not JUST to make it permanent. Thank God the Iran fiasco wasn’t “permanent”.

I agree with McCarthy on this one. It:
1. Makes it difficult for future chicanery (I'm actually thinking wrt the Deep State bad actors)
2. Underscore US commitment to anu agreement--no more Libya scenarios
3. Should have a provision that if it is violated on our side, the Norks have permission to strike Left wing voting strongholds in the US first.

I’m thinking the Senate knows it will happen and they have to support any deal made by Trump. They’ll make a few minor alterations claiming to fix Trump’s flawed deal. That way they can divert credit from Trump onto themselves. The RINOs are just as slimy as the DEMs in hating any of his accomplishments.

WHY do these DC-dwellers always enforce the Constitution against Republicans but never against Democrats?

Of course, we should follow the Constitution; however, my question remains.

I agree. I am sick of these Presidential “deals”. Whatever is negotiated needs to be ratified by Congress so it survives the next liberal President.

In fact — to the extent possible — Trump needs to get as much of his agenda as possible embedded into the laws and the deep state so it survives him.

I agree time to stop calling treaties something else.

Now Tump could call it an agreement between SK and NK and Japan, that’s ok with me.

Just like Obama did for the Iran nuclear deal

I wonder if McCarthy remembers, if he is old enough, how many rounds of ‘talks’ circulated before anything was signed with the ending of The Vietnam War.

re; size of the room, size of the table, location, etc. all were ‘negotiated’, before anything was signed.

Giving Congress ANYTHING, at this point, would just make the whole a multi-year “clusterbuck” for the “never-Trumpers”.

Totally agree. Let the Democrats have a chance to vote NO! so we can stick up their ass in November.

I can’t imagine President Trump even THOUGHT to not submit it to Congress.

I like listening to Hugh Hewitt from time to time. You can tell Hugh’s lips bleed a little every time he has to utter the words ‘President Trump’.

Oh, and his constant ‘fetching Mrs. Hewitt’ must be running to the well to get him a glass of water.

Screw him. The Congress has done nothing for 70 years and now this glory hound wants to have a say?

I actually agree with this. All of these "agreements" are really treaties and should be treated as such by the government.

Yup. Many of us have suggested that Donald’s EOs should be followed up by formal legislation becoming LAW in order to make it permanent, AND thwart dem criticism that Donald is governing by Executive Orders.

It depends 100% on just what agreement is reached.

Remember the Paris Peace Accord of 1973? Remember the Democrats honoring the munitions support agreement for South Vietnam in a timely fashion, such as to prevent the NVA overrunning the country? A Treaty is a piece of paper of no consequence if no one stands behind the words of commitment.

South Korea should be so lucky as to have a Japanese nuclear force deterrent as part of any treaty agreement. Do not count on the U.S. Congress to do the right thing when the moment arises.
