Ha! That’s gotta top Patton’s WW2 “Nuts!” remark.
Not Patton-McCaullif
“Ha! Thats gotta top Pattons WW2 Nuts! remark.”
It wasn’t Patton that said that. It was the commander surrounded by Germans when asked to surrender. Patton came to the rescue aided by the Army Air Force.
That was Gen. McAuliffe, 101st Airborne, commander at Bastogne. Patton’s Third Army led the relief and he did express admiration for McAuliffe’s one word reply to the German surrender demand.
That wasnt Patton
McAuliffe of the 101st Airborne.
It wasn’t Patton!
That wasn’t Patton, it was Brigadier General Anthony McAuliffe, and he didn’t say, “Nuts.”
That would have been General McAuliffe, commanding the defense of Bastogne with the 101st Airborne et al, with the benefit of a delaying action east of Bastogne buying just enough time for the 101st and others to move into position at Bastogne before the Germans could get there by the 4th Division, 99th Division, and the 28th Division (Pa. National Guard) / 687th FABN, among others... :)
