That was Gen. McAuliffe, 101st Airborne, commander at Bastogne. Patton’s Third Army led the relief and he did express admiration for McAuliffe’s one word reply to the German surrender demand.

We bought the home we live in from the widow of a very good friend who was in the 101st Airborne then. He came in behind the lines at Normandy in a glider, parachuted into Holland and was trucked into the Bulge in the relief.
One hell of a tough little man. They were both extremely find people. Close friend of my father since childhood.
